In the past week the state has averaged 2,109 new cases and 68.6 new deaths per day. California was one of the earliest states to impose a strict stay-at-home order. Though the rate of infection there has been less than in other states home to major metro areas, the state’s average daily numbers continue to climb upward. The increase in new cases comes as the state is scaling back restrictions after being on lockdown since March 20. Like New York, California is only allowing counties that have met a certain threshold to begin reopening, leaving out the state's largest cities. [ link to thehill.com (secure)] |
