Best case scenario we launch a nuclear first strike on China and destroy as much of their ability to respond as possible. They'll still likely get many nukes through, and if Russia piles on it's mutual destruction for sure.

Still, I would rather try to survive in a fallout world than let commies take power. If China is allowed to continue they will guide the world in a dystopian direction. Letting them continue to seize the land of others and expand their wickedness is not an option.

This is about the future of humanity.

Supposedly the United States does not have a first strike policy. We wanna see them coming in and then strike back. I still think they will pop an EMP 20 miles up over the center of the US and we'll all go dark first. In our panic we will not be able to figure out what happened until it's too late.

That's a shame, it would make dealing with China much easier if we did fire first.

As for them launching an EMP attack - I don't think they could take us by surprise like that. The threat of an EMP attack is not new. We likely have established protocols to follow in the event of such an attack, and our military would not just sit around in panic.

Our general electric grid may be vulnerable to EMP, but I would wager that most of our nuclear assets are as protected as possible so that they can activate in such a scenario. We would very quickly respond and fire our nukes.

Even if it was possible to disable mainland USA somehow, our nuclear submarines alone would be able to utterly destroy China, and they would certainly survive to fire their payload.

One way or another China will go down in flames.

I know it will be a hard decision to make but I think you are correct. We tactically need the element of surprise, waiting for them is just going to make things harder.
