“Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees, until after we have sealed the slaves of our God in their foreheads.” What does that mean?

Those 'sealed' are the 144,000 chosen to serve as assistant kings with Jesus for 1,000 years of resurrecting and healing all Satan's reign of terror hurt. Rv7:1
Next at 7:9 the great crowd is seen. "Theses are the ones who come out of the great tribulation", the meek who inherit the earth. What does the 'sealing' of the heavenly group mean, it's not applied to the earthly?

It’s been my understanding that all Christians will be either resurrected or, if living at the time, transformed at Christ’s return, and will rule and reign with him for a millennium.
That said, I can see where Rev. 20:4-5 might lead one to believe that only the 144,000 will be given authority over earthly affairs during that period, but other passages in Scripture would seem to indicate that all resurrected Christians would have a part in governing the planet, and that the extent of their assigned authority during this period is wholly dependent upon their prior works and devotion to Christ.

Probably replacing those that forsook their place?

The sealed are, I believe, those Christians entering into the Tribulation period, who are marked so the plagues don’t affect them. I realize that this is in conflict with the widely-held view of a pre-Tribulation rapture, and is one of many reasons that I don’t believe in it.

Right the rapture is an unscriptural theory. As the 144,000 die off they are individually transformed into spirit beings in heaven.
"But I tell you this, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit God’s Kingdom, nor does corruption inherit incorruption. 51 Look! I tell you a sacred secret: We will not all fall asleep in death, but we will all be changed, 52in a moment, in the blink of an eye, during the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised up incorruptible, and we will be changed. 53For this which is corruptible must put on incorruption, and this which is mortal must put on immortality. 54But when this which is corruptible puts on incorruption and this which is mortal puts on immortality, then the saying that is written will take place: “Death is swallowed up forever.” 55 “Death, where is your victory? Death, where is your sting?" 1Cor15:50
