Will you...or will you tell your children to....Be a DRAFT dodger...
A draft dodger, draft evader or draft resister, is a person who avoids ("dodges") or otherwise violates the conscription policies of the nation in which he or she is a citizen or resident, by leaving the country, going into hiding, attempting to fraudulently obtain conscientious objector status, or by open resistance (civil disobedience). Although it originated earlier, the term became popular during the Vietnam War to describe citizens of the United States who dodged the mandatory conscription policy, in order to avoid serving in the war, by leaving the country, originally to Sweden, but later in greater numbers to Canada, or (much less often) Mexico. The term may be applied to individuals who avoid military service by other means.

The United States has employed conscription (mandatory military service, also called "the draft") several times, usually during war but also during the nominal peace of the Cold War. The U.S. discontinued the draft in 1973, moving to an all-volunteer force.

Today, the Selective Service System remains in place as a contingency; young men aged 18-26 are required to register so that a draft can be more readily resumed. The U.S. armed forces are now designated as "all-volunteer", although, in 2004 as well as during the 1991 Gulf War, some personnel were kept in the military longer than they expected. However, this was consistent with their enlistment contracts because of a clause that permits retention based on the needs of the military,[1] In 2003, legislation to reintroduce general conscription was defeated in the U.S. House of Representatives due to widespread disapproval among lawmakers and the American public. Similar legislation has been proposed for reintroduction recently but it has not yet been approved.

The motivations for draft dodgers and resisters are manifold. Some are individuals who merely wish to avoid the dangers of combat (and may otherwise support the war in question). Others have political or moral objections to warfare in general, or to the circumstances of a particular conflict in which their country is fighting; or may identify with a different country altogether.

Refusing to submit the draft is considered a criminal offense in most countries where conscription is in effect.
________________

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Rep. Charles Rangel introduced a bill in Congress Tuesday to reinstate the military draft, saying fighting forces should more closely reflect the economic makeup of the nation.

The New York Democrat told reporters his goal is two-fold: to jolt Americans into realizing the import of a possible unilateral strike against Iraq, which he opposes, and "to make it clear that if there were a war, there would be more equitable representation of people making sacrifices."

Fuck serving in the military. They treat their people like shit. Just claim that you're gay and then you won't have to serve. If they every do reinstate the draft, it'll be pretty easy to get out of going - if you're serious about it.

The current administration wants to avoid a draft if at all possible. They don't want to see fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters marching on Washington en mass. They would rather keep sending the Nat. Guard over and over. But if things escalate from here, they may have to bring the draft back...

Most of you will be forced to make the choice that has the best pay. Either go to another country where you can find work or you will join the Army and get paid that way.

If Bush re-institutes the draft in order to have the man power to attack Iran, yes I will gladly assist anyone who wants to avoid the draft.

IF American soil were invaded by an army, I would sign up myself to protect her.

The risk far outweighs any benefit as the risk will vary from child to child.

My brother was sacrificed in Vietnam, my son will not be sacrificed in Vietnam II. My brother's last letter said he realized he had been sold a bill of goods on Vietnam. He died 3 weeks later, had been there for 12. I don't ever want my son to go thru what he had gone thru. He will never be enlisted for another country battle where we do more damage than good. If we are fighting on our soil, to protect our country, that's a different story.

I will tell them to join the neo nazi movement before the military. I was once an enlisted Marine. It is not something you willfully would want to do. But in the event my son decides to join the military I will not stop him.

My brother made the choice with the knowledge he had about going to vietnam. I was 14 when he died, he had been 20 for 1 week. I'll never be able to hear taps again nor a 12 gun solute without the horrible thought of him in a country where we only created havoc. They were simple people who only wanted to grow their crops and kids. Our being over there only incited those that wanted to hurt us. We stopped nothing, we helped create the problems. I still want to know what we were there for, why did ny brother die. That was in 1970, my heart hurts for any family that has to live with this knowledge. Someone, anyone, why did my brother die? What did it accomplish? Why were we there? How benefited? Do you feel safer now that so many of our young men died in Vietnam, why are we repeating it.

Every eligible child of every politician and billionaire in the country should be the first to line up and receive in-theater or front-line postings.

If they're not, then it would not be fair for any other person to submit to a draft.
