"ALONE" Starts Tonight

Looks like tonight it gets bitter cold & they're all gonna be because their shelters suck & most put little time in on building their fireplaces & chimneys.

I can't believe this late in the game & some still have tarps over their head. How much snow do they think a tarp is going to hold when it's flapping in the breeze?

It starts in an hour and 15 minutes

Its very likely we "might" have multiple winners or have no have winners at all. So tough to decide who will win, but I'm still leaning towards Roland winning this.

Well, they are only at day 50...only half way thru it.

I loved it when keilyn caught 2 fish & was jumping & laughing & crying all at the same time...She gets to eat something

I was happy for her & felt for her all at the same time. But between the fatty fish & the no fat rabbits she's now in pretty good shape.

This season makes no sense as they do ten episodes and already are at 50.

Any ordinary person lasting 10 days stranded in the wild is amazing as they typically just wing ut as they are accidentally stranded so have no equipment.

Any bushcrafter lasting 40 days pulled of quite a feat,but has a large body of knowledge and equipment and mental toughness.

Anything longer is a matter of local game/fishing/wild edible availability, no accidents, luck, weather, shelter materials, water availability, and infection/illness.

Look up how long people have lasted and deleterious effects due to rabbit starvation. One really bogus season had Sam win merely because he showed up fat and so justed waited it out demonstrated extremely poor levels of buscraft skills. Whoopydo.

Now as it pushes beyong 87 days, due to rabbit fever, and the moronic way they begin, it's dangerous and medically unsound. People are making themselves sick because starvation through induced rabbit fever damages ORGANS.

In history, indigeneous people lived in these locations did just fine and grew in size and raised childred by hunter-gathering plus herds and raising crops. That is natural way to do the show and it's healthier and would show far more bushcraft.

Do you want to witness misery or learn bushcraft?

Is it worth having multiple people damage their heart values just to watch a blood sport? That is what will happen with rabbit starvation as the vast majority will NOT get a fat bearing game animal and so even Roland is struggling as he eats lean meat and the excess amino acids are urinated out. He cannot catch up. He's demonstrated admirable bushcraft ability (despite a very unethical kill), but cannot gain weight so might win, and might damage his heart.

On the previous season, a fine hunter got a moose so had FAT, and lost some of it, and still did fine. That was incredibly lucky given the knockdown power required for an ethical kill.

Surprisingly the ladies have done quite well as they've both hunted and fished better than past seasons. Amos has done well. But it's only day 50.

What usually knocks them out is weakness due to rabbit starvation, illness, or their mental toughness cracks and they miss their family too much.

With archery, you don't have true knockdown power as you do when discharging and penetrating wild game. Your bow has kinetic energy and using broadheads and luck and height and the target region the is supposed to deliver an ethical kill. Otherwise your kill would be heavily criticzed as the animal struggled to die.

Look at their bows. The bows are insufficient reflex bows and their limited equipment with the number of arrows then trying to film this, it's grossly unfair.

What they are trying to attempt is using primitive bushcraft that an indigenous hunter would have had, but it takes a lot of luck to wait around in a tree stand or stalk and manage to get a large game animal especially a fat bearing one.

Look up how few people can use a reflex bow and take down a fat bearing game animal by stalking. That alone is a rare bushcraft skill.

If you have the videos on your computer, or Tivoed, go back and listen about 3-4 episodes back as Roland complained about whatever expert scouted the locations as they did crummy jobs and overestimated the fishing and game present.

Roland is a bushcraft guide. That is his profession. People pay him to take them to a rich location with abundant fishing or game so they can catch their limit.

What the Alone "experts" did is criminally cruel as they made poor choices on the locations where participants were placed and the fishing spots were dangerously risky. Two people fell and just by luck did not get a head injury.

The Alone production staff is overly concerned with creating a "drama about suffering". I have problems with that. It's teaching people that bushcraft is a spectator sport when bushcraft is practical ancestral skills.

Indigeneous people likely had no problems surviving in that region in Canada.They would gather wild edible plants, plant crops, raise herds, trap small game, and have hunting parties in the autumn. Their best hunters would go out, do things like dug pitfalls, and then traps bears. Then harvest them and share with the group.

And their group grew in size.

But the producers of the show instead wants to create a drama about misery and so drops them far too late to artificilly create a situation where an indigenous member is stranded, or injured, or seperated (maybe due to a battle) and then has to make it on their own.

And so the show is contrived and is made to appeal to spectators and bushcrafters (which is a tiny subset of people today so not a realistic demographic to provide a profitable audience).

This is how many indigenous did it regarding bear hunting and the timing is COMPLEX based on hunger and maturity of the creature and how desperate the hunters and the creature was. And then when the weather supported the methodology (as the pit cannot always be dug due to frozen ground). Realize that the hunters were just as weakened with spring hunting as winter was starving time.

Don't just watch the show. You can learn some of these skills and practice them and then go into the wild on your vacation time and try them out.

If that works, then bushcrafters then take classes by attending a 1-2 week course.

The point is not entertainment but learning practical ancestral skills that even a 12 year old might employ to put food on the table.

4. Mitral valve prolapse. The heart valve between the upper and lower chambers on the left side of the heart is called the mitral valve. It closes when the lower heart chamber contracts to pump blood throughout the body. The changes in the heart muscle mass compared the structure of the heart valve can affect the closing of the valve. The mitral valve then can close less tightly and prolapse into the upper heart chamber. In people with anorexia about 20 percent will have mitral valve prolapse. Unfortunately, the heart valve condition appears to persist even after weight gain.
I am seeing more patients with anorexia in my clinic. To a physician, low body weight and in particular the pattern of muscle loss are noticeable signs. Most of my patients with anorexia eat a low to low-normal calorie content in a day, but then exercise excessively. Despite being very underweight they still discuss weight loss goals they hope to attain. More recently, I have encountered a surge in misuse of “natural” therapies to cleanse or purge the colon or work as a diuretic. These therapies are every bit as dangerous when misused as prescription laxatives and diuretics, and can lead to severe mineral and electrolyte depletion and significant weight loss.

What I learned military (marines) have never been successful on this show. The military is taught to rely on each other. And most marines or military guys tap out.

Mental aspect is the most important. Including keeping a stable mind to make rational decisions. Seems the most important to me. So see you can always learn from people’s mistakes.

I had two fine marines in my survival in my wilderness clasz who did admirably well.

Soldiers get SERE training and that is very short term survival and trying to get back to base camp. It's a very different beast evading the enemy and staying alive from your "kit" and your wits.
