I'm sorry, and all due respect, people have always lost jobs for publicly expressing unpopular opinions, or those whose families are loud enough about their opinions which aren't popular. Antisocial Media just provides a much broader target audience and that much more likelihood of employers hearing such things.

Ultimately it comes down to being careful and thoughtful of your speech, and THAT should be common sense. I'm allowed to not believe in the Home Depot values, of course... But if they sign my paycheck it'd be a bad idea to carry around a sign saying so.

I've not once even intimated that I agree with how things are, and in fact made it pretty clear that I don't. What I DID say was that social media has NOTHING to do with the phenomenon... People have been losing their jobs for speaking out for a LONG long time, and common sense dictates that you should understand the consequences of your actions, whether you agree or not... So be prepared to lose your job to stand by your convictions, should they collide with those of your employer.

twenty years ago our hs used to do trips with the sports teams, travel to a sister city in europe, had a alt outdoors school ( that has been replaced with a rotc) and the culture was just different. no more of those programs and metal detectors. feel like this generation got cheated from that time that was much better.
