Let the thyroid grow back?
Is there someone here with the experience that his diseased and thus reduced thyroid gland could be moved to regrow with the thyroid extract?

Thanks for sharing experiences!

Re: Let the thyroid grow back?
i don't know why it can't be revived and in your case OP,you still have half-
as for synthroid it IS TOTAL BS,like whipping a dead horse and expecting this dead horse to get up and work.
armour at least IS thyroid,so maybe w/rest the thyroid will begin to renew.
I stopped the synthroid as I GAVE UP as it never worked the way THEY wanted it to as seen on blood work and wanted to keep on INCREASING IT till THEY saw the numbers they wanted to see, meanwhile I AM FEELING LIKE CHIT due to IT.
was off the crap for more than a year without ever seeing myxedema,swelling/goiter/hair loss, parathyroids were behaving--etc
so a new doctor was incredulous at my physical status inspite of the labwork and suggested the armour preperation and agreed to start with the LOWEST DOSE and not bombard me with a high dose and play from there.
well......i am taking it and feeling like chit and as soon as i can, will get back to her.
years ago LOL,theee experts decreed that a damaged liver or heart cannot regenerate or simply function at a good degree and have been proven wrong.

now there are also those in various degrees of chronic kidney failure(i'm one) which THEY claim will lead to dialysis---same question--why can't they figure out a supportive approach which in time leads to regeneration and does chronic kidney failure affect Both kidneys ?
we have 2.

so OP ? search around for info,dietary/nutritional support and get into a practice group that LISTENS and can also offer support and ideas.
it will work out.

Re: Let the thyroid grow back?
Thank you for the timely thread op. I just learned that a previous (last October)mri showed the right side of my thyroid is enlarged. I was never told about it.

I had another mri a week ago, and the neuro surgeon told me about it.

They say the next step is an ultrasound to determine if it's cancerous.

To say I'm concerned is an understatement.
My friends call me Bob.

Re: Let the thyroid grow back?
Most docs, and certainly most Endos do not know how (or want to learn) how to properly treat thyroid issues. They only test TSH, which measures pituitary hormone not thyroid hormone. And most only want to prescribe synthetic T4, which some people (myself included) can't properly convert to T3.

I have Hashimotos, which is an autoimmune condition where your body attacks its own thyroid gland. None of the docs I went to back in the early 2000's could tell me what was going on and I certainly did not know, but I was in terrible shape and going downhill. A referral to an endo resulted in him telling me that the autoimmune attacks had gone on too long and my thyroid was basically 'swiss cheese' and needed to come out in 2010. So now I am on replacement meds forever.

They started me out on synthroid (synthetic t4, low dose) and it wasn't working and I was miserable. I eventually convinced my GP to prescribe Armour, which is made from pig thryoid glands and supplies natural T3 and T4. That worked much better, but most docs will not test properly, and will not prescribe enough to actually suppress your symptoms. For most people, what is needed is between 3-5 grains per day. Most docs will top out prescribing at 2. Some people can't convert t4 to t3 properly and end up with reverse t3 issues (rt3). T was one of those. The fix is to go on t3 only for 12 weeks and then once your body clears out the rt3 excess, take your 1 to 1.5 grain of Armour or other Natural Dessicated Thyroid (NDT) plus 50-75 mcg of T3 spread out in several doses over the course of a day.

Get all the labs they list and post all your results and the forum moderators, who have years of experience in dealing with thyroid issues properly, will help you figure out what the best treatment is. They also have a big list of 'Thyroid literate" doctors in most every state and some other countries.

Most docs won't prescribe T3 either, so we have to go online and get ours from offshore pharmacies. Most of us used to get our NDT & T3 from Thailand pharmacies, but those sources pretty much dried up last fall and winter (pig virus in China + covid). Everyone stockpiled what they could and have now had to switch to Mexican pharmacies for T3 and New Zealand over the counter "bovine glandulars" as an NDT replacement if we can't get a doc here in the US to prescribe enough NDT. Lots of prescription NDT sources here in the US have changed forumluaries and started adding fillers that a great many people can't tolerate. It's a bad situation, but the docs don't care, heck most of them can't even prescribe or treat properly to start with.

So, to make a long, complex story short - IF you have Hashimotos, which is likely if your thyroid is that diseased - IF it's not too far gone and you get on proper (and enough) meds ASAP and keep your TSH and your autoimmune antibodies fully suppressed, your thyroid *may* heal some of the damage, but you will still likely need to be on some level of supplementation meds for the rest of your life unless you can heal your gut and/or get your adrenals properly regulated (a very common underlying cause), and get any underlying food allergies identified and dealt with.

Hope that helps.
