It's understandable a thousand years ago people wouldn't have known what Jesus looked like since most never left the local area. It's natural they would have painted him like their own community. What else could they do?

Now that we are more informed about the world why don't they make him look like a Syrian guy? That would be close enough to the truth I would think?
