Unfortunately they live in California. There is no way that both of them will not be charged for something. The woman herself will be charged and thrown in prison for sure. They will make an example of her.

Because in Commifornia they hate that you can have guns, so they pretty much let you have them (for now) but absolutely throw the book at you of you break the law with one. Shit, if you even look at your firearm out of the corner of your eye during a defensive situation they might give you life in prison. Meanwhile, they slowly erode what you can own down as much as possible.

This is why I carry a few defensive options for situations like this (and I live in a red state mind you). Hardcore pepper spray, heavy unbreakable baseball bat, small combat knife and, of course, my pistol. I will use the nonlethal first to defend myself... the pepper spray in particular is always fun. Feel threatened? Spray that bitch and everything is over.

Someone gets out of their car or comes at your car with the intention to do harm? Step outside with a baseball bat and start whistling. Are you drawn Into a fight and they somehow pulled away your baseball bat and are going to attack you with it? Well, I personally would go for the pocket combat knife and the kill, but if you are old or sickly or cant fight, then you transition to your firearm.. Because now they have a weapon and are threatening you with it, blast em (unless you live in a blue state).

Of course, you can also use a deployable taser. But usually they get hooked up on clothing and dont get good skin contact and I find them useless (and hugely expensive). Contact tasers can be good but you have to be in knife or fist range, and if it comes to that I would rather make someone bleed with my knife or shit their brains out their ass with the baseball bat. Don’t get into melee range if you have your pistol on you and don’t know how to fight, if they get that gun off of you then you are probably dead.

Last resort is my pistol. Its a cheap (400 dollar) 9mm Beretta. Has never failed me once at the range no matter what ammo I use in it. However, I carry 147grain hollow points interspaced with 127grain hollow points (I am accustomed to the recoil change from practice). If I pull and use my pistol, you are dead and gone. When they take away my pistol to investigate the shooting, I wont mind because its a cheap little carry gun. I will also have tried using different means of non lethal self defense against you and you continued to escalate the situation to the point where I had no choice but to violently end your life. This will all be shown in court if it ever goes that far.

Show the world that you didnt WANT to kill the person, you were just using your tools in self defense and trying to get away from the situation but they wouldnt let you... until they left you no choice but to deploy your firearm.

However, and honestly, a small can of pepper spray that you can activate and hold hidden in your hand or in your pocket is the most effective solution against pissed off people wanting to fight you. Soon as they come up on you spray them in the face, spray their friends, their dog, their cat, their sister.. just spray away. Situation diffused.
