Quoting: telling it straight [link to www.nytimes.com (secure)] His speech completely ignored the very real feelings of the people in the United States who feel marginalized. He talked about Abraham Lincoln but he needed be more like Abraham Lincoln than Rambo. He wasn’t. By not acknowledging the depth of this very real and growing anger, he’s just created more of it. This is not going away and it’s only gonna get worse. The signs demanding reparations are springing up all over New York City and that is going to be the next thing. He needed to attempt to bring people together and he failed. The message she communicated last night is the last thing in the world that will help the threats of dominance and force. He needed to show strength but more importantly he needed to show unity he needed to show that America is ONE nation under God He failed. Brace yourselves for more violence and turbulence ahead. I will never pay reparations. |

I think he needed to show toughness and strong law and order to protect our institutions which he sure did. He also rightly acknowledged that this is a war for America’s survival —all good. BUT he needed to do more to draw black Americans in and there was nothing much in his speech for that. And that was a missed opportunity and will prove to be a real mistake. |

We hopefully will see all affirmative action programs gone and section 8 housing. All that stuff has contributed to the racial tension we see today Enough with the phony bologna black vs. white stuff. It’s racist and does no good |

The only tone deaf one is you OP. There is no reconciliation with these enemies. How do you still not understand that? Its not that they "just feel marginalized", no, they want to destroy this country. They have made that perfectly clear. Theyve brainwashed the youth for decades training them to hate America. The media is a weapon of mass psychological warfare against the American people. Theyre tearing down statues of Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln for Christs sake. All that stuff has contributed to the racial tension we see today Enough with the phony bologna black vs. white stuff. It’s racist and does no good Agree totally we need less racial division but there’s got to be more of bridge than just speaking about MLK and Mohammed Ali. What’s been stunning for me to see is just the depth of this anger among my black friends who I had no idea felt as strongly as they did about how they see America as a country for whites only. Their feelings are their reality. Also what Trump said about education is very true. We have two generations that have been raised to hate America and now we are seeing the fruit of that thinking. The kids today did not grow up having any love of country. They don’t say the Pledge of Allegiance. They don’t know who about our founding fathers. They have no buy-in to the America Trump talked about. None. The animosity now in the black population runs deep and our kids are on that side. If we don’t at least attempt to try and find a way to bring people together we are going to have a real war going on. We have to have some thing that unifies us as a country. Division of us as one country needs to come from the president. And I don’t see him doing that effectively right now. |
