Green Beret, 34, described as the real 'Captain America' who served six tours in Afghanistan takes his own life in front of his wife after landing job at Pentagon


A decorated Green Beret described as the real 'Captain America' by his friends died by suicide in front of his wife on Monday.

Master Sgt. Andrew Christian Marckesano, 34, served six full tours in Afghanistan and a half dozen more combat tours overseas before recently moving to Washington D.C. to started a coveted new job at the Pentagon, Fox News reports.

He returned home to Alexandria, Virginia, on July 6 after having dinner with his former battalion leader and took his own life.

Marckesano had three young children.

Q33 I was in the 19th Special Forces Group and was deployed in 2002. Let me tell you that we are by far nowhere close to being cowards or pussies. Our training pushed us to the limits and our deployment is a testament to human endurance. I was lucky to come back home alive. I still suffer and no treatment in any private or VA facility has been able to treat my pain. I have to deal with it and be strong. Suicide though came close to it many times. It is no longer an option for me as I have three young children to care for and love.
