Yeah, seems La Mesa, El Cajon, SDSU area are getting the worst of it. Air Quality Update - 7/12/20 Due to the ship fire burning in San Diego harbor, localized areas of smoke have occurred in areas of San Diego County. As a result fine particulates, or PM2.5 concentrations, may reach unhealthful levels in some smoke impacted areas. In areas of heavy smoke, assume that air quality levels are unhealthy for sensitive groups to unhealthy for all individuals. In areas with minor smoke impacts, assume that air quality levels range from moderate to unhealthy for sensitive groups. In areas where you smell smoke it is advised that you limit physical activity. If possible, stay indoors to limit your exposure to fine particulate matter. The USS Bonhome Richard, was the flagship of the Expeditionary Strike Group 3. Which took part in the first Gulf War, the Somali Civil War, and the Second Gulf War. So it could be a terrorist attack. |

I read somewher that most of the aircraft besides training is removed before it even docks. But I honestly have zero idea. Just checked outside.. Still have the chemical smell. Weird how it is localized around here, and nothing down at the beach. |

You could have 5000 sailors and it wouldn't matter In this particular situation there are no barriers because of being in the yards. Theres hoses, vents, pipes in the door ways, doors and scuttles are missing for restoration or waiting on new ones. They cant section off the fire and isolate. If they were out in the sea and 100% operational it would be a way different story and theyd be able to isolate, contain, and stop the fire. Sailors want to be on that ship and stop it but they wont allow them to do it. They are only letting small teams to go in. Not only the sailors attached to the ship dont want to watch it burn down into the water, but there are hundreds of volunteers from other ships wanting to get in and fight. This is the worst fire the navys had since the 60s mr. jingles |

Here's why: 1) during a refit most of the crew bunks ashore. 2) the reason it burned so badly is that most of the crew were not on board and refit crews are not trained to put out fires. 3) during refit many of the hatches are removed to allow equipment to be moved through the ship meaning they could not close off areas that were burning 4) The ordinance carried on board is minimal. |
