UK extradition treaty with Hong Kong under review

The British government is preparing to take a tougher stance on China – with Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab due to update the House on a review of extradition arrangements within hours.

Mr Raab said it would no longer be business as usual and a “whole range of other considerations” were under review.

The UK’s relationship with the communist superpower has deteriorated in recent months over Huawei 5G, COVID-19 and China's new national security law on Hong Kong.

Chinese Ambassador to the UK Liu Xiaoming said it would be “totally wrong” for Britain to impose sanctions on officials.
