That is a problem, solution, quit paying welfare checks to able bodied people, quit giving free housing to able bodied people, quit paying able bodied people to send their kids to school.

All of these wasted resources could then easily be used to correct and improve the cities infrastructure.

Group protesting arrest of Lorraine Bates in Petal
Protesters have gathered outside Petal City Hall to speak out after the arrest of 70-year-old Lorraine Bates.

Bates was taken to a hospital. Lawrence said she was “bruised and banged up” from her encounter with the officers.

Petal Mayor Hal Marx, who was the target of recent protests for comments he made on social media about the death of George Floyd, took to Facebook to weigh in on the situation Friday morning.

“Our officers did everything they could to treat Ms. Bates with respect,” Marx’s post said.

Several of the protesters tried to go inside city hall to speak with Marx about his Facebook post, which prompted the secretary to call the police.

WDAM’s Jeff Morgan is following the protest outside city hall and will speak with Lorraine Bates later today.

The cops did nothing wrong. They were incredibly patient and kind. I don't give a fuck who you are, you DO NOT have the right to be lying down in the road. She was physically able to move, she was mentally cognizant of what they were asking her to do. She has the presence of mind to tell them to "put her walker in the car," "get my wallet," make a cell phone call to a relative to complain, and then lecture the black officer about her past activity that allowed him to even be a police officer. She is willfully "contrary." She is not confused about the situation at all.

With that said, in hindsight, the police should have just stayed on-scene for her protection and allowed her to lay there until a relative arrived. Just sit there and say nothing to her.
