I'm afraid of choking on mozzarella cheese, caramel and hard candy, AMA

Have you ever pulled a piece of hot mozzarella cheese from your throat at the last minute because you were afraid to swallow it because you could potentially choke? But the cheese slips past your tonsils and the more you pull, the longer it gets so you panic, your life flashes before your eyes yet at the last moment, right before you pass out, that last glob magically pops out.


And you ponder so many things.

I choked on a sausage once, ended up liking it and now I'm gay.

I was sucking on a cinnamon disc when it suddenly flew into my windpipe. My entire body contorted as I began to wonder if I could perform the Heimlich maneuver on myself then I remembered, if you can talk, you're not chocking. I expelled air from my lungs (not knowing if I had any left) and the candy projectiled from my mouth across the room.

God was I happy to be alive.

Caramel seems evil. Maybe that's why they put it in everything now. Adding "sea salt" was a strange twist. I wasn't expecting it.
Surprised me when I found out how simple caramel is to make.
Its so good the eagerness to swallow is strong however another side of my brain doesn't want it to end. In the end, we get a split decision.
Im that person bent over coughing spasmically aspirating on my own saliva.

Chew your food more before you swallow. If your older it could be signs of other trouble.

Inform your doctor. I have difficult with caramel, star burst, super beet chews....anything that isn't solid, but stays together. I keep a drink nearby if I eat these things to force it down. If its bad a bite of bread will push it down. There are many causes for this. Some are treatable, some are not.
