Can you imagine if you were told, yeah this is it, this life you suffer and then it’s nothingness .

The whole god thing is just social control. Maybe if you just enjoyed the one life you have, just in case the logic is right.like it's illogical to believe your gods watch over this one of millions of planets out there? Do you think each planet with intelligent life forms have there own god?

Nihilism / Atheism etc. are cop outs of the lowest order. It not heroic or daring to believe these things....it's the opposite. It is cowardly and a false way out of responsibility.

Believing life has meaning and acting accordingly...now that's scary, dangerous, courageous and beautiful.

In all honesty I think if people thought there was no god or afterlife they would go crazy, I know there are a ton of people id like to shoot and get rid of but that isn't my right god commands all not to kill each other lest in self defense. I also do not believe any religion I think god put the rules in us from the begining and you know whats right and wrong.

It's pretty hard to be happy in this life. I mean, consistently.

I agree with this. Just imagine a world where all people follow what is right in God's eyes, by following the Ten Commandments, which are really a list of how to treat others. Regardless of whether or not they believe in an afterlife. Life would be very pleasant if everyone followed the Golden Rule. Life is hard for most people because of the way they are treated by other people. I have two children. One of them loves life and the other one hates life and makes me feel guilty for having given birth to her.

Not believing in an afterlife should not give you a free pass to do wrong - thinking that since there is no afterlife no payment for wrongdoing will result.

Maybe we should all just stop having children.

Better work to make the world have less suffering then.

People are scared to die because they are afraid there is nothing waiting for them on the other side, what they believe is worth little in the moment of own death. There is no way to prove Afterlife so I guess nothingness is what we actually got.

There is only empirical EVIDENCE for one outcome - reincarnation. Kids knowing details about a life they could not possibly know about (pre Internet). Then it turns out to be true.

First, I don't believe that, BUT...

Going along with the thread topic, it really wouldn't matter to me if that was the case.

If it's true nothingness, then you wouldn't even know it because there would be no spirit or soul to feel the nothingness.

It would be same as when you're put under deep general anesthesia for a surgery. You don't realize you're under anesthesia, you just pass out and the next thing you consciously realize is when you're waking up. You have no feelings or thoughts of the hours you were under anesthesia.

Well, it has to be one or the other....

Either everything you say, do, and feel has eternal significance, or it means absolutely nothing whatsoever. There is no in between. Of that, I'm certain.

I felt this way since I was very young:

If the point of this life is to get to know God and that relationship, good or bad, determines where you'll spend eternity... then why is every waking second of this life focused only on earning or having enough money to survive?

Think about it: the only goal of this life is to work a job you don't want, for money. That's it. There is no other purpose to this life, that I can see.

Once my life ends, I would've spent 99.99% of my time and energy worrying about money and 00.01% of my time and energy worrying about my relationship with God.

This life feels like one huge distraction, and it's virtually impossible to escape it.

Fascinating! My parents took me to church when I was four and that scared me so badly that I lived in relative terror until age 13. Then I realized that the churches were evil for preaching fear and sin that could never be avoided, though they did have some access to power. I rejected my parents and the churches for many years and then found my own way to acknowledging Our Creator and began to live a better life. I still don't attend churches since they are unutterably boring and don't provide any value to me, though the obviously do for others.

I'll do my best to live a good life and see where that goes. If there's an afterlife, I'll do the same there, to the best of my ability. If not, I'm at least thankful for this one.

Can you imagine if you were told, yeah this is it, this life you have a choice to accept Jesus and he saved you from your sins and then it's eternal life in Heaven.

Have you died, and come back to tell us this? Near death doesn't count buddy, you need to be dead at least a whole day, then come back and tell what you saw while you laid in the morgue.
