The burst was so bright that at the time it was first recorded it was dismissed as man-made radio interference. It put out a huge amount of power (10exp33 Joules), equivalent to a large (2000MW) power station running for two billion billion years." Sometimes they are very bright, like a camera flashes, and shine straight through cumulus clouds. Mannnn am i relieved .....i was starting to think i was seeing things lol Thanks for the reply : ) But of course there will be those who claim we are all seeing things lol but i know what i saw. Peace yall : ) |

Not like I've seen before and I've been watching the night skies for a few decades now. Those flashes might GRB's (Gamma Ray Bursts) and we'll be seeing more and more as we cross the galactic ecliptic plane. If we get broadsided by these GRB's, we might get fried. At least half the planet wouldn't. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 273343one thing i found while researching is that they might be iridium satellites catching a bit of the sun. i'm no scientist, and just throw this out there for you all.... I pondered that too... They could be any satellites reflecting light as they turned. Who knows what they are? Messages from other brethren in space? |

There is a whole array of those things up there and they flash ocassionally. Quoting: NightWispI do not remember all details,, so you might Google it. Quoting: * <----star of destinyAlso the Pleiades is very bright tonight. Brighter than i usually see it from this very light polluted area. I know its a long shot but if anyone else noticed that flash of light near Pleiades (the Seven Sisters) i would like to hear about it. it was just a very quick flash of light there ...i know i didnt imagine it. I too, was noticing how clear the Pleiades were the other night. Usually they appear as a fuzzy blob, even in this no smog town I live in, but the other night I could see each star. and I doubt my eyesight has improved itself over the years |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 319858 United States 11/05/2007 12:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So every strange anomaly in the sky they are going to blame on satellites ? lol Quoting: * <----star of destiny 279402They just dont understand the powers of nature. Except that satellites are on very predictable paths and its easy to go to a site like heavens-above.com and find when iridium flares, etc. were visible for your location. They are very common and most likely what you saw. If you saw a flareup and find that there was supposed to be one at that time visible in that part of the sky for your area, there's no reason to attribute it to some more wilder theory. |
