My desktop computer keeps making a grinding noise!!

Yes a cooling fan is going out.

I had a noise like that in my laptop. Replaced the cooling fan. Nice and quiet now!

1. Open side of computer
2. Listen for noise
3. Does it come from the fan? or Does it come from the box shaped metal thing that is probably offset from the rest of your computer?

Have you tried turning it off and leaving it off?

Had loud noise come from mine. Found out the graphics processing unit (graphics card) fan was clogged with dirt.

Should be able to weld it back on after you're done.

Also if you don't like to waste time with grinders just use a plasma cutter.

Get a Crucial SSD drive. Easy fix with the assisted videos.

Fans can make noise but it is usually the hard drive

But seriously you probably have a loose ethernet cord or wrong wifi key. Reconnect your ethernet cable or put the right wifi key in the network settings of your printer and whala... Instant working printer.

Edit; some printers don't support special characters in the wifi key password, so if your wifi relies on them you won't be able to connect. Enable a secondary network with a soley number only password to connect the printer to the wifi network.

Go to your PCs control panel. Click on Network and Internet, and therein you'll see where you'll click for devices.

At least that's how I'd check it on mine....

It's low on coolant. Pour a little water in the back....thru the vents. Not too much tho....only like 1-2 cups. It doesn't take much!

Fan going out, get it replaced.

Drop a grenade inside of it. That will stop the grinding noise permanently.

You might try the suggested uninstall/reinstall first.

You can also check your wireless router. About 90% of the time that's done by opening your browser and typing in 192.168.1.1 in the address bar. Hit enter on the keyboard. This will take you into the router's control panel. It's a good place to check things. Don't actually change anything in there without writing it down, but you'll be able to see if the network finds the printer.


You can find your USB connection on the printer by looking for something like this:

It's usually, though not always, close to the electrical plug in.

Get the proper cable and plug it into the computer directly. Won't work for the network, but you'll be able to print your stuff.

But the best thing might be to call technical support since you're not terribly familiar with this stuff. Keep telling them you're deaf until you get someone who speaks understandable English. Most of the time they can actually get you up and running although you might have to do a few useless steps before they find the problem.

Printers are the pits when they don't work because if you shake them up and drop them on the floor, they're usually finished.

Thank you for the suggestions. I finally tackled it today. I deleted it and the downloaded the driver again. It's now working.
