How do I pick the right kitten ?

You have obviously never been around them. They all have their own personalities.

Just instinctual traits, OP is looking for give and take lovin. Ain't gonna happen OP. You are asking for the moon. Give it up, unless you look for an established older cat with a personality and the kick is that you will have to WORK at a relationship and not just expect it.

I wanted a large orange kitten from a feral litter in my neighbor's land and went out there to bait them....I put out cat food and waited to grab the orange kitten.....when I approached, they all skedaddled except for the runt....she was a tiny tabby and continued to eat while looking at me....when she was done, she came over to me....


I picked her up without a fight and she came home with me.....that was that....she was the most affectionate cat I every had....she passed over a decade ago and I still miss her company....

Instead of expecting deep love from a new cat, how about getting a kitten the just loves playing with you? It's not that hard.

That being said, I'm glad I'm not a cat parent any more, it got to be a lot of work and expense.

Anyway one girl I know who is always sung about in reverse as part of the "HAREM," who I call Clairebot, well, she wanted my special one-eyed kitten that I got from the "HAREM HEAD" named Jamie

Well, Claire has done her fair share of stiffing me in more ways than one, so what I did was I told her that I'd love to give her the kitten :'33

We met and she was soooooooooo excited to take him from me, except, that didn't happen >:33

Meow meow meow INSTEAD, what happened was that I made her a smoothie and she drank it down and said it was tasty, then I told her that I was so happy to show her the kitten but he's going to be coming home with me, sorry.

Oh the look on her face !!! The sheer hearbreak !!! Her lips quivering with pain, her eyes holding back tears !!!

I offered her to smoke some meowijuana but she declined, and said she had to go :'33

Of course I wished her a safe walk home, and started playing some DARK SPEECH super loud !!!

I laugh about it almost every day x33

That is how i picked my last girl.
I kept chasing the cute ones around, and the funny looking one kept jumping on my shoes and crawling my leg, she was insane, I called my husband and he said ‘that’s the one you bring home’ and I did.
And she kept us smiling her whole life. She grew to be gorgeous by the way.
I do believe I want a super lovey one this time..
I am afraid to get a sick one, I will look for the brightest eyes. No goops or sneezes etc.

That was my other line of thinking. At that age I would for sure what kind of cat I had on my hands..
I’ve met some ridiculously amazing cats in my life. And I’ve had 2 phenomenal ones, so I’m a little nervous starting over.

I’m a female and definitely have relationships with my pets. I think I’ve set the bar high because I’ve only had amazing ones. No matter what, they’d still be cherished and loved, just hoping to get it right and looking for some insight.

If I could actually choose a kitten, it would be a bengal.
Second best to a Bengal would be a tabby thats obviously been bred with a a bengal at some point. I have a Tabby with both Rosettes and stripes she is so cute. You can adopt her if you want her. She's three and a short hair tabby, so quiet and cute. Another one I have is more of a longhair that one cries like a baby. They are sisters if you want them both.

I believe I’ve gotten the insight and some wisdom I was hoping for. I’m going to not overthink it or rush. I will meet kittens and cats, singles and duos, and I will see who picks me. Thanks for the great input

Joking aside, get the one with the most variation in its fur color. They seem to be the most fun.

Also, do the laser pointer test. If they don't chase the laser, skip them.

tom kitties are more so affectionate. females will get more so if they have kittens. i have a couple of tabbies. I have owned a lot of cats. these are the sweetest most affectionate kitties ever, even the girl, but she is a bit less loving the tom.

I think I’m ready for a change ! Both mine were solid colored short hairs. I’ve been wanting a male orange tabby ( ultimate lovies ive heard ) and I’ve been daydreaming about a Siamese ( I met the coolest one EVER) then I look at the mixed little mutts and think I’d like those too !! I feel sexist, but am hesitant to go with a male, because they are more likely to spray and get more possible urinary issues.

no that is torture and I saw it totally turn one of my cats into a skitzoid. she jumped at anything looking for that damn laser the rest of her life.

so my Bengal cat used to put the mouse in the tub to keep it to play with as he tired after so long and would keep it in the tub. lol I loved that cat. Great mousers but my tabby is no slouch either.

I used to do the laser, then I’d let her see it go out the tiny corner of the bottom of the door ( my theory was that she’d think it went outside and escaped ) seemed to work, she was generally pretty schitzy too.

My twins used to do that when they were kittens! It was like kitten NASCAR in the tub. You're the first person I've heard of that it happened too.
