I know most people might be sick of zombie movies but "Yummy" was kind of funny and pretty well done.

I think you're right he might not have been on. However, they did dedicate show time to have guests on to discuss him. Im actually thinking of another guest, he claims to have been visited by aliens at his house. Greys I believe. They made a movie about his experiences. Wish I could remember his name he is still alive. He claims to have been visited many times. Anywho, that movie, is excellent as well.

Re: Anyone know of any actual good movies?
What about GLPers favourite Cyberpunk movies? I always loved Bladerunner which was why Altered Carbon sits so high on my list. There are so many amazing Cyberpunk books that need movies or a series done on them. Thanks for all the suggestions. I guess I should have said Sci-Fi, Space Operas, and Cyberpunk are my go-to I think I've watched most of them. I asked here bc if you do a search on like, "top sci fi" or "top cyberpunk movies" etc. you get the same movies we've all seen.

I hit that cinematic wall a few years ago where it's become increasingly harder to find something awesome. I've never gotten into Fantasy but might just give it a try. I get bored with them but maybe if I powered though LOTR finally I'd see what everyone's so crazy about. 80's and 90's movies are my jam too. I saw this movie called Brainscan the other day and loved it.

There are a ton on here I've never heard of.

I’m guessing you’ve seen Robocop, but have you seen Robocop 2? Those movies are hilariously relevant today. I think if you enjoy Cyberpunk you’d get a kick out of both those movies, but they’re pretty popular already so you’ve probably seen them. Just had to mention them because they’re so good.

I have probably seen Jacobs Ladder at least 20 times. I don't know why but I used to absolutely love this movie. So amazing.

Your other suggestions are really good as well. Great taste!
 Quoting: Greyzone

What I really like about Jacob's Ladder is that it's dreamlike presentation really makes you wonder if most of the movie is symbolic or literal. Hell maybe it's both. And the ending is really touching and satisfying. Makes me cry every time.

Re: Anyone know of any actual good movies?
Upstream Color - the best movie ever made? Could be. An exercise in empathy and free will.

Primer - The best time travel movie ever made. Will make your head spin with its subtle but effective approach. Doesn't talk down to its audience.

Synecdoche New York - Takes meta to another level.

Hard Candy - Two monsters try to set each other up. One monster destroys the other.

John Dies at the End - Funny, odd, and probably unlike anything you've seen.

Super Dark Times - Coming of age movie with a dark twist. Probably requires multiple viewings to truly understand.

Jacob's Ladder - Interpretation will vary. Conspiracies, loss, and acceptance of fate.

I Origins - Powerful. A character's core beliefs are challenged as he and his partner make a ground breaking ( and personal ) discovery.

Another Earth - Forgiveness. Second chances.

Seeking a Friend for the End of the World - A peculiar but good mix of comedy and emotion. Who is your real soul mate?

The Lobster - Forge a bond with someone to stay in society or outcast yourself for true love?

10 Cloverfield Lane - If Hitchcock had written and directed Misery.

The Fountain - Character is challenged through the depth of allegorical and literal loss.

Resolution - A true GLP movie here. I don't want to give it away, but this one is simultaneously hilarious and terrifying in ways you have to see to believe. Subtle stuff, but sticks with you.

Re: Anyone know of any actual good movies?
Resolution is a BRILLIANT film made on a shoestring which led to they Endless which expands on the same universe. It is remarkable.

Both GLP movies. But then please commit,to seeing Spring right afterward as sit's equally good and might be in the same universe too.

So watching all three is a one night commitment and very thought provoking about the nature of reality that most ignore and probably cannot handle.

Note that one youtuber explains the ending (and really so well) that the film makers went on his show and openly praised him.

BUT also note that what that youtuber and the film makers said still leaves the film open to interpretation as to the nature of what is happening.

In other words, imagined atheists created these films and then said, "Look, this is what reality is...honestly." But if Christians did the same thing, they could say, "See this is what reality is...honestly." The entity can be viewed in entirely different ways...and neither interpretation can be correct.

All three are very thought provoking.

Whatever you do, DO NOT read about the stories or the endings as it just ruins them.

We coud talk a week about all three films and who is being portrayed.

I don't want anyone to cheat, but Found Flix is run by a amateur brilliant film critic and he was the one whose interpretation got the film makers excited and I think was the first time they admitted he "got it right".

That guy understands very complex films like As Above So Below that is a deeply meaningful horror film that few can understand.

Re: Anyone know of any actual good movies?
Time Lapse- fun but thought provoking time travel movie that appeals to a pretty broad audience.

Tucker and Dale vs Evil- thriller with broken stereotypes that make it funny

Bron/Broen aka the bridge- great slower paced but entertaining foreign series. I love any series that has characters with unique personalities.

Yellowstone- modern western series with good characters, drama, and writing. Not fast paced, but not slow either.

Wentworth- Australian female prison drama that I prefer over Orange is the New Black because it's more gritty and not preachy/bubblegum. Wentworth is also better than Bad Girls, the British female prison drama.

Black Mirror- UK Twilight Zone/social commentary type series that is excellent for for the first 3 seasons. Then Netflix took it over, and the episodes are still okay but nowhere close to the UK ones.

Other good series that I can think of right now-

Better Call Saul, Startup, Billions, Bosch, See, Gangs of London, Little Fires Everywhere, The Morning Show, Line of Duty, Happy Valley, Lodge 49 (quirky).

Re: Anyone know of any actual good movies?
These kinds of complex films are often lqbeled "art horror" films as they have philosophical meaning and often a conspiracy theme, while some may say they were "supernatural horror" films.

For example, an excellent art horror film is the Belgian film Left Bank which is the area of France that has Palestinian people living in it. That film is a pagan horror film that has an alternate reality to it outside a typical Christian paradigm of the nature of good versus evil in reality.

Most people simply would NOT understand what is going on as it's the occult and even then, most have not actually read anything except conjecture.

Note the now famous film star featured in the film.

Re: Anyone know of any actual good movies?
A serious film student would see The Other which is a classic horror film from the seveneties, then see Goodnight Mommy and compare the two and might see The White Ribbon as the same time.

All have the theme of the horror that children can do which is startling and horrifying, with the White Ribbon the one that is most philosophical. It explains how "child-soldiers" can happen as a phenomena as in a young state without guidance, young people can develop without personal morals and acceptible societal ethics.

Most people watch a film as a diversion, when a serious film maker hopes people are provoked and considered what is being communicated as art (or even as propaganda).

To a lesser degree The Bad Seed film and later remake covers similar ground.

Then having seen those films as Art, then rewatch The Exorcist as the will of an innocent is overcome by demonic possession as a susubversion of "free will". Then consider was Reagan in some way complict in her actions regardless of demonic possession? Was her mom negligent and so allowed the demon to enter their lives?

Are all of us responsible when nonhuman entities subvert free will is the theme of Hereditary as the demon is invited over a long period of time by an evil grandmother in a coven who then infects her grandchild son and destroys her daughter's family in every malevolent way?

Baskin is an art horror film told from an Islamic understanding of good versus evil then juxtaposed against a Yazhdi understanding of good versus evil yhrough a descent into Hell.

It's a Turkish film of the occult so demands some understanding of those two religions.
[link to m.youtube.com (secure)]

The Yazhidi have been accused by Muslims of worshipping Lucifer, and as a passionate Christian, I think they are right, yet the Muslims are ALSO worshipping Lucifer too.

Baskin is an essential conspiracy theory film as Lucifer is the oldest conspirator as the quintissential Nemesis of Humanity.

Get Shorty The TV series is really really good. It hasn't got the exposure it deserves as it's on epix.

Don't compare it to the movie, they have little in common except being loosely based on the same book.
