And that often comes down to the quality of journalism. A journalist may only have a day or two to research and write their article. That may not be enough time to really get to grips with the subject. In which case, the article may miss important point, or may mislead.

Though if you stick with high-quality newspapers known for fact-checking, the journalism is better. And if you start reading lots of high-quality newspapers to cross-reference, that helps overcome journalistic limitations.

In the case of COVID, we are not just talking about a single article, we have literally thousands of media articles to read, from a diverse array of media sources. Plus if you are scientifically literate, you can read the scientific studies directly (you don't need a journalist to interpret them for you and re-write them in a simpler language).
