The Mormon church at the time tried to silence Benson because he was such an advocate for freedom and anti-communist. Benson was one of the few "good ones." He was the Secretary of Agriculture for the US Government so he saw the conspiracy first hand and began to speak out against it. SO "They" (the higher ups in the church) sent him away on a lengthy mission way out of the country in order to be rid of him and his zest for exposing lies and sharing truth. It was very bad PR for the church - whose main focus was to smooze all the communist countries in order to send their missionaries in for more $$$$.

Nowaways, with the new old decrepit Count Dracula looking Satan worshipper (just as bad as the Pope), the church is promoting being a "good global citizen" in order to help stop the spread of CoVid and the majority of Mormons haven't been to church in MONTHS. Temples are closed. They use Mormon members "tithing" money to mass vaccinate children in Africa with the MMR and other vaccinations.

Too bad Benson was at odds with other apostles of his day such as the much more liberal Hugh B. Brown, whom held American and Canadian citizenship. There was such a clash and rift between him and other 'brethren' of the quorum of the twelve that sadly they decided from there on out to only choose members who were fairly non-politically inclined one way or the other. They still tend toward more conservatism, but it is a weak brand of it. At the time Benson's support of the John Birch Society also raised the eyebrows of his peers. We can thank Benson for at least instilling stronger Americanism and Constitutionalism among the American members of his Church that still remains more solid to this day (compared to the rank and file American) BUT it still is fading fast in the youngest generations who have been brainwashed for their whole academic career since age five. As usual, he was right, and the liberals to this day (who actually know of him) still hate his guts. He was was kind of received like the Donald Trump of his day among his congregations, they either loved him or hated him.
