Yes its an extreme risk sport. You make the choice early on its part of aquiering the skill.

Its like being a real Ninja, the higher the levlof skill, the greater the risk of death.

If they keep doing it long enough, the injury or death wil come. Thats why the bright ones retire young and move on to more body oriented sports.

Sports that involved equipment outside of your own body/ muscle memory are much more dangerous. Thats why yoga is popular, you can build the body of a pro athlete and no outside equipment to depend on.

I broke my leg skating in my twenties, It was an horrific experience exacerbated by neglect. It is crucial I not get fat and keep up some muscle tone or my right hip in old age will be unmanageably painful as the left is no shorter. So I don't run, that is the one thing that will damage my hip. Swimming is the best, and I love hikes.
