Epic Beard Guy User ID: 77993004 United States 08/04/2020 10:22 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Better look into the History of the Pacific Northwest. There is evidence of a Forest that had salt water intrusion a few hundred years ago. They claim that a 100 foot wave could have done this... Also, Japanese historical texts mention of a Tsunami around the same time frame... So it is possible... That was caused by an earthquake. There is a crustal subduction zone just off the left coast. It runs from northern Commiefornia to Alaska. The Cascadia subduction zone has been the source of many large quakes and tsunamis throughout history. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. Quoting: Bigdick_Ron I'm not sure exactly where your post jumped the shark, but it definitely did so by this point in your fantasy. No, I know for a fact that is NOT the reason they came home when they did. I know because I'm involved with the reason that they came home when they did. The next crew is being trained for particular experiments I am involved with, Bob and Doug did not have the training needed to handle those experiments and there is a hard limit on the minimum amount of time that is needed between their return and the launch of the next crew. Even though the spacecraft was performing well and could have remained on the station for longer than originally projected, we needed them to come home so that we could process all the data from the test flight (including the re-entry and splashdown) and clear the next mission to proceed. This was an extended test flight, the next mission will be the first fully operational mission and that can't happen until NASA and SpaceX have verified the data from the completed test flight. If an asteroid were going to hit ISS on its way towards the atmosphere they could have done a phasing burn weeks ago when they were planning Bob and Doug's return. They could have simply altered the orbital period period of ISS ever so slightly so that by the time of the supposed asteroid impact ISS would be thousands of kilometers away from it. |

She contacted me via text only with a numerical code for urgent matters that we used during the days of pagers (not 911) along with a number to call...a payphone of all things. The news: Thursday, 8/5 - Friday 8/6: Incoming Asteroid with U.S. Coastal Range Impact expected...affecting a range anywhere from Mid-Southern Alaska, to the San Francisco Bay Area. It's measured at nearly 230 ft wide, and highly probable that it breaks apart upon entry causing fragmenting ballistics with a debris field over 1,000 miles long. Their intel suggests that fallout could reach inland as far as Colorado, depending on what part of the Pacific it enters the atmosphere (and if it breaks apart). This is what they are wargaming for, as it is the most likely scenario...but the worst case scenario its that it doesn't break apart, and that there's a direct impact...where one of two things happen: 1) Ocean Impact - expect tsunami of 80-100ft high along a 700 mile radius of coastline, and 30-50 ft high on entire indirect west coast shoreline. Computer simulations state this as preferable of the two scenarios as a lot of the high coast cliffs and bluffs can withstand this type of tsunami with minimal civilian risk. 2) Land Impact - Complete devestation - possible earthquake trigger, toxic dust could, fires, power grid down (PG&E), National Monument destruction, Forest devastation, Tremendous loss of life, etc. I asked why they are hoping for a break apart scenario over a direct hit to the ocean and she said because if it breaks apart, the debris field will be so wide and long...that most of the fragments would most likely be the size of a bowling ball up to a large home television, and would land mostly in unpopulated high desert regions. She said...get this...it's trajectory is set to brush dangerously close with - if not impact and take out all together - the ISS...hence the recent departure and homecoming of our two astronauts. Astromut Senior Forum Moderator 08/04/2020 10:30 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | the odds of it hitting the space station are astronomical. You lost me with that. Quoting: continuity And there's no way in hell they would only evacuate 2 of the 5 crew members on board the station and simply let it get hit, even though they supposedly know about it weeks in advance. It would be a lot easier to just fire the progress module engines for a couple meters per second to do a phasing burn and put the station in a slightly different orbital period so that it is nowhere near the asteroid at the time of the predicted impact. If they alter their orbital period by just 1 second per orbit, with about 15~16 orbits a day, that puts them 15~16 seconds out of position more each day. Give that two weeks to accumulate and you now have at least 210 seconds difference in the position of ISS at the time of impact. At an orbital velocity of about 7.5 km/s that's a difference of over 1,500 km. So you see, it does not take much at all to prevent that from happening. It makes no sense that they would choose to partially evacuate the crew and deliberately lose the station and the other three crew members. |
