The tectonic plate structure underlying the Salton Sea reminds me of the Holy Land's Dead Sea. There is a continental plate subducting under a spreading rift valley.

Go almost to the bottom and they have the super-volcanos listed by VEI (Volcano Explosive Index). Long Valley has been listed as a 7 for as long as I can remember. Its obvious these magma chambers are a lot more connected than whats being told.
