Beirut explosion: Video of church altar's survival brings hope

St Dimitrios Greek Orthodox Church in Achrafieh is less than a kilometre away from where the Beirut explosion took place.

Father Youil Nassif rushed to the church to check for damage, finding the nave completely ruined. But the sacred altar space, protected by the "iconostasis" (wall of icons), was almost unscathed - including an oil lamp that had remained lit throughout the blast.

Current events started long ago.

Here we can learn, that in 1931 some people was very clear about
what was coming to all of us.
It started with Bolshevism, Sovietism, Communism and ended up
with the more acceptable word for the same, Socialism, as we have today
all over this world. Implemented by the salami method, by stealth.

WATERS FLOWING EASTWARD

“Bernard Baruch—80 year old ” Elder Statesman,” ” Key figure in politics,” etc. . . .
Chairman, War Industries Board from 1918, when he admitted before Congress that he
had more power than the President. He was Adviser to Jas. F. Byrnes, War Mobilisation
Director, from 1943. ” One President after another has made him a confidante ” said the
paper American Hebrew of 17th June, 1946. He is a great friend of Mr. Churchill. He was
Economic Adviser to U.S.A. Peace Commission in 1st World War and Master Mind of
the New Deal Policy which has been called ” Sovietism by Stealth.”

Altars are for sacrifices!! Jesus died for all humanity ONCE and no more sacrifices are necessary!!

That must be some pagan church like the RCC or Orthodox as I couldn't read the story as the BBC webpage takes forever to load.

I saw all the idolatry though!! That false Mary and baby Jesus pic. And the abomination that is supposed to represent Jesus the Saviour of the world.

Hmmmmm make no images still won't be obeyed.

How do you reconcile the fact that the earliest Christian churches excavated from the towns of the earliest Christians in Galilee, all have altars and iconostasis walls like the church in Beirut?

They were following Christ's command to eat the bread and the wine to share communion in the Body of Christ.

The orthodox church is the oldest, icons are in all the earliest churches. Since the first Christian's and many people couldn't read they painted the gospel in churches a tradition that still lives on today.
