Shortages hardware stores (Germany and elsewhere)
I'm seeing shortages in hardware stores here.

Post bases (the one you put in cement) - not available.

Hard pressure impregnated lumber / posts- not available

Weed control sheets - the ones you buy fr the big roll - not available (some carry at least some of the pre-cut ones)

Don't think everyone here is building big front porches all of a sudden..

They are. More people are home and naturally want to DIY. Add to that lumber mills almost everywhere halved their staff once they had cases, and to keep them distanced during cut-back production.

Well, I should at least know 1 person/family in my small village then who is building sth, right? I know no one. The ones renovating have companies doing it, who won't buy at the hardware stores the normal person frequents..

I understand but that doesn’t mean what l’ve indicated isn’t true. You don’t have to know the people buying up the stock. Maybe ask the hardware store owners who is buying it or what the reason for the shortage is. They should know. Anything in here is pure speculation ranging all the way up to alarmism.

Landscaping equipment is almost sold out in several area dollar store types, but the high priced stuff is somewhat available. Try to find a low price sledgehammer. 2 lawnmowers at my local depot. 10$ for Clorox bleach. Getting out of hand for sure.

We had a couple of severe hail storms. Homes damaged in June are still waiting for repairs. Roofing materials, windows, siding, eavestroughs, flashing, etc.; All were damaged in thousands of homes, but repairs are lagging. Homeowners are not getting answers for the delays, so is this a supply shortage, a worker shortage, insurance company malingering, or all of the above?

Over here our hardware stores had shortages and when i asked why, they all said that since people arnt going on far-away vacation they are all putting work and money in to making their homes better. and thats been happening since the lockdown/people having to "work" from home.

and tbh im part of those people. ive done loads of chores at home and pretty much everyone i know visits the hardware store at least once a week now. where last year wed go there 2 or 3 times a year lol

Re: Shortages hardware stores (Germany and elsewhere)
There are no shortages. Not in Germany and not in Austria. In the contrary short term you will see oversupply and deflation.
Especially in construction supply.

Then inflation will set in, which will lead to hyper inflation with high probability. Not shortages but you won’t be a now to afford anything.
Shortages will happen after the crisis is over and in booming phase.

I have wondered if covid is a cover for trying to crush china economically by destorying their exports to put internal pressure on them and perhaps collapse the chinese government. The US and Europe buy 100s of billions of dollars of chinese made products a year, if you suddenly stop 90% of that for 6 months it has to be having a massive effect on china.

Since the petrodollar is backed by fed printing, the US can print/helicoptor drop gov handouts for those unemployed and hit by our economic downsturn as a result of the lockdowns, china cant do this the same way as energy is tied directly to oil use, and thus US dollars.

The FED and the EU and UK/Commonwealth banks are all tied together basically anyway.
