Electric wire fence ? Is it a fire hazard if it touches the standard deer netting when the wind blows?

Those electric fences never last from my experience.

Plastic isn't conductive, so I wonder how you imagine it shorting out to start a fire?

This is metal electric fence wire with a high charge. That is what I thought, the plastic nylon fence should not conduct if they do touch. I just wanted to make sure.

The deer are relentless this year with a hot drought. Usually the deer netting keeps them out. I even doubled it up and they still chewed, ripped and pushed their way through. I have alarms that go off, bright motion lights, electronic repel devices, nothing is stopping them this year. I have to try to save the last little bit of garden I have.

I have an alarm that goes off when they get through and I end up getting up every hour all night long to chase them out and rebuilding the fence every day.

I had to run off two big bucks this morning. Tempting.......

New elec fence systems are high voltage pulse types. You could cover them with dry grass and it would never ignite. Does your energizer click? Then it is a pulse system.

Just to clarify. I am talking about two fences, one is the plastic standard non electric deer netting. Today I ran the hot electrified wire a few inches on the outside of the old plastic fence for extra protection.

Blast one. Teach them a lesson.

If the conditions are just right. Anything touching the hot wire can cause a fire.

Dry and high humidity can do it. Or very very very dry.

Not click, it pulses a hum sound, it is old, I just dug it out of storage.

The game warden lives close by.

Spread a bunch of real naphthalene mothballs around the area.
They don't like that stuff. Away from the roots of your plants.

Also a good one called 'deer out' that works pretty good. Peppermint and other things they avoid.

But if the deer are hungry enough. Nothing will stop them but a bullet.

It is very dry and hot. I made sure there is no grass or weeds.
Is there anyway the plastic fence touching the hot wire could cause a burn? I also used plastic PVC pipe to insulate the wire from the poles. I did not have ceramic, I used what I had with the assumption plastic will not conduct, heat or be any fire risk.

LOL It snapped in half on me target shooting my new arrows the other day. It was old.

We had an electric fence for years on the farm and never had a problem. You should be fine.

Some buddies and I were drunk and running around a field 1 night and I accidently peed on a electric fence. Not fun at all !

The acre of garden is saved now. I am so proud of myself. It was a hard week on this old lady. The elc fence is working and today I fixed my 22. The alignment fitting broke, it would not shoot. It is so old you can not get new parts. I made one out of brass plumping parts I scrounged and reshaped with a grinding stone and file. It works great now and fits tight and perfect, not a jimmy rig job, this will last.

I had a strong dejavu dream thing go on warning me not to shoot a deer out of season but I can scare them off and shoot the raccoons.
Do cross bows use different size arrows? I priced around to replace my old bow. My eye sight is so bad I thought a cross bow might be better for me. I have never used one before but I was good with my string bow.

Look on Craigslist and Facebook marketplace you should be able to find a decent crossbow with bolts and maybe a 4x power scope for $200 -$300

Make sure you can cock it as they can be a bugger. They use much shorter arrows/bolts than a normal bow. Very accurate and reasonably quiet

THE BEST WAY TO PREVENT ACCIDENTAL DISCHARGE OF ELECTRICAL ENERGY FROM A SINGL WIRE ELECTRIC FENCE AN DEER NETTING IS TO SATURATE THE AREA WITH A 50:50 MIX OF NAPTHA AND HIGH TEST GASOLINE, MAKING SURE TO COAT THE DEER NETTING AS WELL AS ANY DRIED OUT GROUND COVER.

THAT SHOULD FIX YOUR PROBLEM.

They do use shorter arrows, THanks. I wondered about that, I just bought new long ones with tips. Can lift the cross bow straight up to pull it down, like a tight string bow? I am only 53, 125 but I can lift my weight. Should I try a compound bow?

It is going to take another week to get the ground moist enough for the ground wires to get the elc wire up to full speed. The ground is bone dry, I dug pits around the ground poles to retain the water but absorbing very slow, less than 5 inches of ground moisture after two days.

to clarify my question. can you lift a cross bow straight up and pull down to load it? that is the only way I can pull a tight strong bow.

I am relaxing with beer tonight and enjoying my accomplishments. I finally get to sleep a little and take a day off tomorrow, not up all night and day on guard trying to save my winter food supply. This hot drought summer made the critters desperate and relentlessly after my crops. It would be really bad if it were people that desperate I was trying to fight off.

It's only five volts. I like to walk with people against the fenceline and grab their hands. They hate it. Very dull. lol
