Actually from a legal standpoint the citizen is on a level playing field.
The 14th amendment prevents the legislation of laws which apply to some and not others.

There are MANY MANY situations in the past 20 years where a citizen would have been COMPLETELY in their legal (AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, MORAL) rights to end an officer. ANd in the few instances where a citizen has shot a police officer and kiled him, NONE ahev ever reached trial.

I've had the opportunity to do day labor work for the blacks.

One had a broken and burnt-out sump pump motor. The customer grabbed the discharge pipe, and shook it violently, exclaiming, "it always works when I do this." After the pipe broke and came apart, I quietly picked up my tools and walked out. I was afraid of what next he was going to grab and shake violently because it wasn't doing what he wanted.
