Re: Buy Lots Of Food And Store It Some Place Safe, Because Very Difficult Times Are Approaching
A lot of people totally neglected to learn the most basic essential skills. They won't survive any serious sustained threat, and in history, it's never just one but many simultaneous threats.

One coud spend 16 hoursa day answering basic question and that will accomplish is the following.
1. Temporary help until their supplies run out.
2. Create a cache that will get stolen by a psychopath maruder.
3. Help an antichrist to survive long enough that they join in the persecutin against Christians.

Every single option is bad. If they don't know enough by now to have the common sense to have supplies like a full pantry when winter is coming andmay be very bad this year, then harping on it is a waste of time.

Talk about salvation instead and maybe they gain eternal life though I doubt it.

Say you were organizing ministry in a region. Unless it is taught to be self-sustaining in some manner, all you are accomplished is a half-measure that will end up extending the misery. I know that sounds harsh, but it's the truth.

It's very limited what you can teach online and it's better to give them a pdf that is comprehensive and not waste your time. 99% won't effectively follow through but have so miniscule an increase in supplies that they last two more weeks. Whoopdedo.

If the emergency is small, then two weeks is significant as some sort of organized relief arrives.

What we are facing is pervasive civil unrest due to the presidential election, winter, supply chain disruption, contagion, Marxists and Anarchists and Secessionists, massive sustained unemployment, school closures, antichrists on every side, etc.

Because that is a seriously complex process, a plain old garden solar light is way cheaper and SAFE from accidental fires. A smart husband or wife would rig up a charging station from the second story window. The every day, bring 'em in, and not worry about the kids knocking over a candle or lamp using oil.

Imagine firefighting without water pressure. The whole house would burn up, and in neighborhoods, the whole neighborhood would be aflame because one bozo neglected a candle.

Really smart about charging solar lights to use indoors. Those things are cheap they only cost about five bucks.
I agree about candles they give me the heebie jeebies.

Here's what you can do. You pick a buddy who you know is not prepared. Maybe he's a Christian and you are too. Maybe he lives nearby. You mentor him and you teach him everything throughly. That is useful as you mght save one family with practical inexpensive advice, but your time is precious. Be a good steward.

It feels good to share knowledge, but mostly it isn't helpful. Goofy people buy a few books, never read any of them thoroughly, and halfass it. Usually it takes one genuine scare where they think, "Crap. It's a good thing I listened and had some extra because my family would be screwed if we didn't have that much. I need to take prepping MORE SERIOUSLY and learn some skills".

Real experience with hardship is persuasive.

Some churches switched to liquid parafin candles and there are horror stories as some teenager knocked one over and was terribly burned.

A fire even with volunteer firemen (often kindy called squirrels) or even professional firemen can't extinguish a blaze, but the house is ruined. In a block in a small town, without water pressure, the whole block could go up.

Kids today don't have any experience with candles and fires could easily start.

And if neighbors knew you had solar lantern, some would steal them. Candles without followers burn quickly and people are foolish and they would burn too many.

Candle followers are in old backpacking candle lanterns. It limits the burn rate. Colonial people used candle followers.

The sun travels in the sky, so if you had a second story window, your husband could make a rig and you could merely spin it with this movement and so get the lanterns fully charged.

Eventually the rechargeable battery or capacitor with go bad. You can make a battery with an aluminum can and either an acid or base.

Some indigeneous collected waste animal grease and soaked dry cattail heads in this and so they had temporary torches. Making a long lasting torch is quite difficult to burn for awhile and illuminate. Most don't work well. These are too smokey for indoor use.

What people did in history was use rushlights. You had a rush that burned in a stand for so long, and someone was constantly replacing the rushes.

You need a LOT of fatbearing animals to make candles. It's not practical for most.Unless you have an olive grove or a sesame crop, it's quite difficult to have sufficient lamp oil.

This explains rushlights.

If someone lived near certain conifers, they could extract turpentine. You mix that with quicklime (by heating limestone) and you get camphine which can be used for illumination.

Old coal miners used headlights that ignited carbide gas. That would be inappropriate for indoor use. Where will you get whatever like carbide? That's the issue with parafin oil as well.

Mullein or cattail torches. You would gather some and have them ready, and then were an issue to investigate, you could estimate how far you can safely travel based on the burn time of the torches. You would be screwed walking in the dark as most are greenhorns and unaccustomed to finding their way at night. Many would trip and get injured.

thanks to the Federal Reserve, this is about as low as food prices are going to get. The Fed seems absolutely determined to crank up inflation, and that is going to have very serious implications during the times that are ahead.

I know a bunch of people were happy saying Trump made the FED part of the government or some shit. So what exactly is good about it so far? As far as i can tell, not a damn thing has changed, in fact, it's worse?

Making quicklime from limestone by using kilns is as old as the ancient Romans. You have to know this in order to effectively sweeten the soil pH. You got to have it for burials, for decomposing fecal matter (keep urine seperate of you screwed up decomposition and it will stink longer), to make whitewash, etc.

You folks near the shore can make it from shells. It would require a LOT of shells.

That low tech magazine website is one heck of a resource as most people have forgotten the early engineering that is invaluable on a farm or homestead.

Good idea to get it NOW because if supplies are limited again (and we know they will be) you will only get one or two packages of the above or none at all. Signs that say "Limit one" or "Limit two" will make prepping very difficult once times get difficult.

Where I live there are still some shortages, but they have taken down the "limit" signs for the time being. It may be the last time to stock up before any one of half a dozen scenarios play out before the end of the year.

I tried to get a turkey and the meat manager at the store said that others are asking about turkeys early too. There were none to be had. I even special ordered one and it didn't arrive. Looks like I must wait.

A friend of mine once said, when things fall apart it's going to be 8 years of Mad Max followed by 15 of Little House on the Prairie. Please get books on edible weeds now or download PDFs. Learn how to tie knots, make smokeless fires, and how to not get co2 poisoning from burning indoors. Get plastic water barrels if you can. Make friends with someone who has a house if you're in an apartment. Don't forget "that time of the month" preps. I've heard kerosene can be dumped in a bucket and the poo will go under it and not stink if you have to hide in the basement for a few.

Get birds in your yard as dependent as possible. Do not run the squirrels off. Get yourself some wheat berries and a hand mill. Raise coturnix if you can. Females will give you an egg a day, but they are best if raised in a plastic tub in bedding with a screened lid and a house filter kept on top.

Stock up duct tape. It's a great bandaid if you're in a fix. Listen to any "great depression" video you can. Get to know your neighbors. Buy rolls of plastic painter drape. Now is the time to watch videos on how to garden, but you need fences to keep things out of there. Put up bird spikes if you plan one in the yard, because cats can ruin a garden, and birds can bring attention to it. Now is the time to make sure you have insect plans for the garden, jars, lids, and a canner or dehydrator.

Don't expect to fish in the local fishing hole or hunt in the local forestry. That's a lot of folks' plan. Try to mend relationships with everyone so they don't think of you as a target out of revenge. Now is the time to get berry canes, strawberry suckers, and the like.

Even if you have a field of flax, it takes remarkable skill to make a bolt of cloth. It's why merchants would trade for cloth and that was money as almost nobody could make it.

Read Lewis and Clark. Their clothing just fell off them into rags. Clothing long ago was tightly woven and durable and vastly superior to this junk cloth available now.

A bolt of fine cloth would be worth a LOT of money after the SHTF.

The most likely cloth in a post apocalyptic world is linen, yet there are no such large scale capabilities in the USA.

Cotton harvesting is an arduous process which is why "cotton picker was a perjorative in history. This would be major obstacle to solve as some heavy duty denims would be needed, though linen is much cooler in the summer heat.

People would likely have to transform animal hides into buckskin in the short term.

It sounds kooky, but post-collapse, that sewing center with bolts of fabric, thread, sewing needles, would be like a gold mine.

Where is flax currently grown for fiber?
Today, flax for fiber is mainly grown in Belgium, France, Holland, Eastern Europe, and China. There are also smaller fiber flax producers in Canada, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Austria, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Lithuania, Latvia, Spain, Switzerland, Britain, and Kochi (India). There is no fiber flax production in the United States on any significant scale at present though there are several small scale projects currently active. It was crystal clear the USA was headed for a civil war two years ago and then we had economic chaos due to the contagion. Now we are two months away from what will be a horrendously contested presidential election.

It's a waste of time trying to get naive clueless folks up to speed as anyone who is not, is likely to suffer severe hardship in rural regions, and naked conflict in urban regions.

Kind of hard to bug in in Oregon right now. Can I get an amen?

The last thing you want to do is teach antichrists how to survive.

In American history across a largely unpopulated wilderness with abundant wild game, 66% of homesteaders failed to make it work for seven years so they owned the deed on their property. Those people had extensive skills and were acquainted with hardship.

You on the other hand, think it's rough to miss a meal and have almost zero practical skills and scant supplies. You waited too long.

Maybe you think that's mean to say. It doesn't matter what you think as it's the truth and the harsh reality of trying to survive if the SHTF.

Martial Law is coming. If you can't see that by now you're blind

Stocking up on food and storing shit loads of it is utterly useless.

Under martial law they can confiscate food, guns, whatever they want. Your rights are void. Detained against your will for any reason

So stop stocking up on food. Learn to kill wild animals. That's all you need. But now they're releasing these GMO mosquitoes that are killing livestock and they're setting everything on fire. So let's see what happens.
