"The parasite goes through the wall of your stomach and goes through your body." Alfred Hospital's Dr Andrew Fuller told 7News. "It can eat through tissue." The couple suffered vomiting, swellings on the skin, abdominal cramps, fevers, muscle pains and lethargy. The 52-year-old man told doctors he could even feel movement under his skin. A course of antibiotics killed the parasite and the couple are now said to be well. Well that's disgusting. Being eaten by your own food. |

lsufanatic User ID: 3797826 United States 09/04/2020 09:10 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I would venture to guess that the "Black Bream" they ate was a freshwater species of fish. Almost all freshwater fish have dangerous parasites and should never be eaten raw. Saltwater fish in comparison have very few parasites that are dangerous to humans which makes them safe to eat raw. For instance, Speckled Sea Trout, and most other drum species, carry a parasitic worm in their flesh that is harmless to humans even if eaten raw. The reason is that they are an intermediate host for the worm in the worm's life cycle. The worm is so specific in its life cycle that it must be ingested by a shark to complete its life cycle. I can't remember fully but it may even be by a specific species of shark. That is the case with most saltwater parasites; humans are simple the wrong host for the organism so they remain harmless to humans even if ingested. lsufanatic |
