What do you guys think about the Nvidia Announcement? Linus is pretty stoked!

As always, I like watching the last gen prices fall.

I haven't built a system in about 5 years but I'd like too.

I haven't two nickles to rub together right now but a cheap 20 series would be nice.

Last system I built was for work and It was more workstation server grade.

Dual Xeons with a W8000 AMD GPU.

I'm still rocking a I7 3770k with an AMD 7970 GPU from 8 years ago, runs modern games at 1080p pretty well; not a serious gamer or computer user so I see no reason to upgrade.

Good example....I just looked at current pricing for the Firepro card that I purchased for that system.

Company paid over 1500 for that card.

Now they're about 300 to 400, hell there's used ones for 90 bucks on ebey.

I moved to overpriced laptops for personal use 10 plus years ago but building can be an addiction.

Back in the day if you stood still around me long enough, I'd stick a heat sink on yo ass and overclock ya. (old joke)

Skip a gen.

I love overclocking but decided 4.5 GHZ with a GPU pushed to its limits as well just isn't for me. I prefer not to sweat in my room when I decide to play some games.

Yes. As I moved on and gamed less and less overclocking really didn't have the allure it once did.

Keep in mind that this was 1g Athlons.

Nice, I grew up with some similar stuff.

I played a lot of escape velocity and other ambrosia games on macintosh back in the 90's when I was a kid.

The RTX tech is still in early prototype stage, think I'll skip again

yeah man, i figure its about time.

i think the rest of the PC is still pretty up to date, just would like to run some of these newer games coming out like cyberpunk 2077 maxed out at higher resolutions.

also got a samsung odyssey 2 VR headset recently and i am in LOVE with this racing sim called Automobilista 2. playing in VR with the force feedback wheel and pedals makes it one of the most realistic experiences i've ever had gaming. they really did a fantastic job with the way the cars drive, but i need a few more graphics power there as well as i'd like to get the VR settings maxed out to make it as crisp as possible.

i'm a complete graphics whore. hahahah

Lol modern games aren't even fun anymore, these cards are basically meant for people who want to experiment with raytracing

At 14 I was learning Basic on a TRS80.

That’s before vaccine boy signed his deal with IBM.

I only care about flight sims myself and haven’t done any in over three years. I still play a little Combat Mission but it’s graphics aren’t going to challenge any modern GPU.

“Real-time” is the hurdle. Any card can ray trace.

This rendering took 20 minutes.

I recently upgraded to a Ryzen 3800x from a I7 4770K
First big upgrade in years and it is fantastic.

This is a big jump for Nvidia, I hope that this makes things move forward faster, this whole tic tok strategy is just making things progress slower.

AMD will now have to step up their game.

Hope they rehash their GTX lineup around the new chip minus raytracing.

haven't ever been in to flight sims much but that new microsoft one looks fucking amazing and i might have to buy it when it gets to VR.

Nah I think raytracing is a step forward but it'll be years before it'll become actually useful

i guess since you say so, they aren't fun for anyone then and i'll just throw my pc out the window.

Yes and no. Years ago I snagged over 8000 blueprints of the Grumman F6F Hellcat.

I had to build each part in 3D. I haven’t work on it in 5 years and that was a rendering of where I last left it.

I was only ever going to finish the cockpit section but that’s still a few hundred objects.

i always build mine with 1000 watt power supply. it's cheap and plenty of power for future upgrades.
