President Trump’s back in the Big Apple — kind of.
New Yorkers strolling through Battery Park on Tuesday morning were greeted by a “living statue” of Trump crashing a golden golf cart into a row of coronavirus-themed tombstones.
The macabre installation, dubbed “The Final Push,” was put in place near the downtown Manhattan park’s Pier A by a team of artists who call themselves “The Trump Statue Initiative.”
The all-gold project featured actors portraying Trump driving the cart into the tombstones while pointing a golf club in front of him like a saber, as right-wing Fox News hosts Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham pushed him on from behind. A cameraman is depicted filming the chaotic scene.
Four of the tombstones say “In Tragic Memory Of: ‘It Is What It Is’” — a reference to Trump’s infamous comment last month about the ever-soaring U.S. coronavirus death toll, which surpassed 190,000 on Tuesday.
The fifth and final tombstone says, “In Tragic Memory Of: ‘Loser’” — a reference to the offensive remark Trump reportedly made about U.S. soldiers killed in combat.
At the base of the statue, an inscription reads: “Donald Trump, Destroyer of Civil Rights and Liberties, 2016-2020.”
