I'd say extreme rapid intensification. Must have been some spectacular sprites on top of her too.

Heard the NHC guy say it might be a major hurricane at landfall...something about 'one-up' thinking.

This isn't really a political thread but if it were I might say something like..

the vote seems to be between domestic terrorism vs. climate terrorism.

Sally will test parts of New Orleans for sure..

Best bet is to leave and leave soon if you're subject to levee system and/or live below sea level.. below sea level won't be a good place to be.

Re: Tropical Storm Sally is now a Cat One Hurricane
For only the second time in recent recorded meteorology, since 1971, five named storms were happening simultaneously earlier today - Rene has since become a remnant.

Category two hurricane Sally could be a category three at landfall. The track has shifted east throughout the day, which means that due to the slow speed it could strengthen an extra day over the warm Gulf water, as compared to a landfall near New Orleans and the peninsula sticking out in the Gulf to the southeast.

You'll be close to landfall - somewhere around the MS/AL border. I suspect it might be in AL. Worse case scenario would be up Mobile Bay and landfall at Mobile.

Where ever it makes landfall the highest storm surge will be east of the storm. Unfortunately, it could be moving so slow or come to a stall, that it could be pushing storm surges through several high tide cycles.

Be safe!

It may not make landfall until early Wednesday morning.

Hurricane Sally is now a strong category two hurricane with 100 mph winds.

Chances are looking good for a category three at landfall for it has at least another full day yet, only 11 more mph to make a cat 3.

Moving along at 5 mph. Could be the better part of 2 more days before landfall sometime Wednesday morning.

Invest watch of low pressure system is happening at approx 47 deg N lat, 22 W long.

That's pretty far north for a start-up. Movement will be south-southeastward.

Epic rainfall coming for MS, AL and parts of the FL panhandle.

If Sally enters Mobile Bay it could be another 24 hours before landfall and large accumulations of fresh and salt waters along the coastal regions.

Rainfall accumulations will be reaching 30 inches by morning around the Pensacola region.

Long-term event underway - 2 days total from first wind and rain bands.

Many trees will fall. Be safe if your house is surrounded by trees.

High tide at 7AM along the western FL coastline when the eastern eye wall of Sally will be pounding away.

Sally has upgraded to 85 mph and could re-establish 90 mph sustained winds at landfall. Pressure continues to drop.

She's a wobbler..

Due to pressure dropping Sally is growing in size. Main banding now stretches about 200 miles to the east of the western eye wall.

Air Force Hurricane Hunters now put Sally at 90 mph with 971 millibars pressure.

She's a dangerous storm. Landfall hours away yet - maybe 4 to 6 hours.

Sally doesn't want to behave.

She's now a category 2 'cane again.

And she's still slow walking it to the coast at 2 mph NNE.

Track unchanged with landfall near AL/FL border.
