The new Dune movie will flop extremely hard, and will never achieve cult status like Lynch's Dune.

Saw the trailer and shook my head. There in ZERO creativity left in Hollyweird. Everything is a remake of spinoff. The original had a great cast. It can't be duplicated.

The costumes are terrible. Paul's indoors costume looks the same as the Columbine shooter's garb. His "still suit" doesn't have any of the characteristics described in the novel like, bladders for processing the waste into water, etc. It's just some outfit. And everybody is wearing just normal ass ski gloves which are dyed grey. Also the Saddukar troops don't have chunky, armored suits any more. Instead they are garbed in whispy silver lame.

I guarantee you they won't try to create the bizarre anti-technology seen in Lynch's Dune, they will just make everything look whizzy and modern even though computers and shit are forbidden under pain of death in the Dune future.

So weird how they're rehashing stuff. Almost appears as if creativity is no longer the prevailing trait in Hollwood.

From someone who has read every Herbert book and his sons renditions. Which is 20 plus novels and someone who feels the David Lynch rendition is one of my favorite movies. I know Herbert and Lynch did not agree. Honestly I think Lynch sold himself short and the screen play did not lend to the sequels that could be tapped from nailing this franchise. What I’m trying to say is. This movie looks like it might be able to pull a LOTR style rendition. Not as in depth but that gives the experience to the casual viewer. Im actually really excited and I think this has a lot of potential. I’m looking forward to it.

The effects looked nice but the main actor just doesn't look like the type of person I want to see on a screen and the outfits look stupid

Looks interesting, the effects look cool, recognized the characters right away

If it's not boring and doesn't whisper too much it should be worthwhile

I attempted watching the original decades ago but was bored out of my mind. It was sting in some sandy dunes and spice but boring as FCK.

The beauty of this work is the world-building; dude created a complex civilization stretching through thousands of years with dozens of interesting characters, and he did it using just over 400 pages

IMHO it probably deserves two or three “chapters” (ala Jackson’s LOTR) to get it right

It’s worth doing well if only because this novel has had an enormous impact on the science fiction genre in the same way LOTR impacted fantasy fiction

While I love Lynch and Kyle, Dune was the worst of their efforts. Dont shame Bladerunner 2049 which I think is the best sequel to any film. Even Godfather 2.

I have read 16 and am halfway through Paul of Dune now for my 17th.

I have read Dune itself 5 or 6 times over the past 30-odd years and have seen Lynch's Dune an untold number of times, as well as having watched and rewatched the SciFi channel's Dune and Children of Dune

I consider myself a Dune fan.

Other than saying that the effect of the Holtzman Shields during the Paul/Gurney "fight" scene was immeasurably better than Lynch's effect I have to ask, Zendaya as Chani? I mean, c'mon man!

Look up how movie rights are optioned, studios have to periodically make new updates of properties, or sell the rights to another firm and give the original owners of the property a cut, or they lose their rights to the original intellectual property. In practical terms this means we will see Star Wars, Star Trek, Tolkien, Dune, and all manner of classic movies (and books) remade over and over again.
