If you see fawns there are obviously bucks in the area.

Often you can hear them and not see them. Ever here knocking in the woods? Like someone hitting a tree with a 2x4? That's a buck hitting his antlers against a tree letting you know he doesn't like you in the area. He doesn't give up exactly where he is but he's letting you know he's there.

Ignorant people attribute this to bigfoots hitting trees with rocks or something but it's just a freaking buck. I live in Texas now and most hunters don't even know this because they sit on their ass in a heated blind, wait for the feeder to go off and blast whatever deer walk up to get corn. Ask a real hunter who actually stalks deer and elk and they will tell you about the antlers.

Some hunters carry an antler to knock against a tree. During hunting season this is telling other deer, yeah, I'm on you turf, let's fight. You'll get bigger bucks that way.
