Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78254945 What's sad is that crappy junk food will remain in the driver's seat. Large chain operations like McDonald's or Burger King serving processed, obesity-diabetes-inducing swill will weather the storm way better than a local mom-pop eatery. |

You don't open a restaurant to "feed a family" or make a high profit. It's an extreme overhead business with the lowest of all profit margins. You open a restaurant for one of a few reasons. You're an aspiring or established Chef; food is your Passion in life. Most of these places will have great food. You really want to own a bar, Restaurants that are really bars. Places usually opened by an owner(s) for himself to hang out in with friends, maybe hire a few local musicians. Irish Pubs that serve food are in this category. Old school Mom and Pops run by a family in a building they own debt free. Unfortunately every one thinks their food is good food, I could name 6 places like this all in Southern Colorado, that are so terrible I wouldn't feed a dog the food. You could go on and on, the bottom line is most food businesses are low margin and the food is terrible. It's booze that makes restaurants money, not the food. Most Restaurants SUCKED ASS and I am glad they closed. They were terrible and had horrible service. Ditto many of the bars that closed, good riddance. |

I actually started eating at vegan places sometimes, because I can’t eat dairy anymore, even though I still eat meat. My area only just started to get a few vegan places and they’ve been hit just as hard by Covid. Vegans are a godsend for people like me, because as more people switch, dairy free options become available. You would not believe all the things that have milk in them until you can’t have milk. Regardless, if you don't feel quite as contemptuous of big-food chains, big-food franchises or big-food corporations, and Big-Business in general, then you're a good reason why the crucial middle-class in America has been forced to take a high dive off a high cliff. |
