Are you hunting bear and feeding a .20 person caravan per day? Or are you dragging a freezer with you? Id want a .22lr you can carry 2k rds no problem , in a semi auto would lay down 2-3 man patrols. Small and slow enough where it wont totally destroy rabbits and squirrels which are better for single meal servings. Keep in mind shtf your not going to be fighting a war. You may get in small skirmishes but a smart survivalist is going to move slow. And stay out of sight. If you run into an enclave you have to fight? Observe for a day or two . Learn patrol movements routes and schedules and then engage in guerilla warfare hit and run on outermost patrol points and then have cover ready and whittle their numbers down. Until you can ambush them. But thats only if you HAVE to get through them otherwise take the long way around. No worries. Be silent. Slow and ateady wins the race in shtf |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78240172 Not to smart. High caliber revolver with low maintenance is all you need. There is a reason they won the west. Yeah, the reason is because that's all they had, dipshit. For actual SHTF situation, and you can take a single firearm, there is obviously only one choice. |

Lol shtf is going to be a game of survival. All the idiots who go all rambo in the first 3 weeks are gonna be dead. Move to secure bugout location. With supplies for 3 weeks. Then go on scouting missions. And assess your next move. Plan a route and move slow. Just doing 55mph without knowing what youre driving into will get you ambushed. |

Every shooter knows it, and every shooter thinks about it. What gun would you choose if you could only have one gun? It seems simple, but experts and enthusiasts alike know how difficult it can be. Quoting: claudius The question gets a little trickier when we add a caveat: What if it’s during the apocalypse? Now you have to consider ammunition; if you run out of ammo, will you be able to scrounge some up? What about hunting and self-defense? Read the rest of the article HERE [link to cnp2k22.wordpress.com (secure)] I think the 3rd dude made a lot of sense, he chose the bolt action in .223, he chose a Savage, I have an Ruger American, mine was super accurate out of the box, I can shoot sub 1/2 MOA @ 200 yards with it, I put Primary Arms ACSS glass on it, it has built in (etched) range finder, wind hold, the gun will out shoot me. My AR is in 300 Blackout, this round was made for suppression Good post OP, but it sucks, it makes me miss my weekly trips to the range, I had to stop in May, can't replace my shot ammo! Rinse and repeat. And yes .22lr's are Great tools. They use the same boresnake to clean the barrel as your 5.56 or 5.45 rifle. Anonymous Coward User ID: 79332192 Australia 09/20/2020 08:59 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have a Winchester 44.40 leaver action. I'll be going western range style. I don't care much for people, so I will be digging in hides along a rout to travel each night. I know my rifle will make a loud noise when fired, I don't want to use it too much, one shot one kill, harvest the meat and move to the next hide. laying traps if some one follows me. one must go Rambo for ones self if the society is starving and looking like something from walking dead hoards. then I'll hide and let it pass. I'll tap tree roots for water collection, knowing which trees give good sap for sugars and medicine to take down fevers. you would be best to get the books of survival in the old times and study it and carry it, make it your book next to your bible. |
