Halt and Catch Fire
Brought this up in another thread.

It's an AMC show, aired for 4 seasons and has completed. So ripe for doing a fast run through.

I don't watch much TV, but like to think I spend what time I do watching decent stuff.

If you are a computer guy, grew up threw the era or just like tech and some good character drama. This show is top notch IMO.

A must watch and one(of the few) I'd bother to rewatch.

It starts off set in the 80's, with a few people trying to jump ahead and rip off a bios for their own system and then goes on to follow most of the major points of evolution in 80's/90's computing(with artistic license, with regard to players and names).

Great show, given the state of media today(good stuff is delayed due to covid and good stuff is few and far between because of induced political crap), this show stands up well and should be enjoyable to anyone that was around or likes a good drama(and wants to consume it all as fast as they want).

I watched the first episode or two when it aired, but then they did like some multi week break.

I like watching shows seasons at a time. So I lost interest(due to the time). So glad I came around and got back to it. Watched 4 seasons in a few weeks. It was really good. I remember legion, another one I missed, might have to circle back on that.

Glad to hear that, you should be a bit sucked in by now. It shifts from the first 2 to the last 2, but overall I don't find I wasted a second on it.

The only thing I didn't like, is that I think they had known time was not on their side.

They jumped through so much time, compared to the first season, even the second.

This could have been a 6 or 7 season show if they kept the pace and it would have covered the same time frame.

While I'm a bit peeved by that, I see why they did it and in the end, it worked out OK. It was probably more to do with me, as the viewer, wanting more, than what they had actually written out.

Still 100 percent a rewatch for me.

It could have been a 9 season show with the talent and production but the material was very targeted. It's problem was that it had a limited audience in today's world.

And it's strongest "material" was in the first season or two. I guess it's not surprising, it basically spent it's load then and then went off books and just wanted to use the characters. The pace picked up(with regard to the tech) and it was more character focused.

I guess I should be happy, because while I'd think it could have been a 6 season show(at a slower pace) it could have just as easily been a 2 season show based on the tech aspect. I should be happy with what I got, and I am. The last season though, was pretty rough. Love/hate. I loved the buildup, but the ending was bittersweet. But the logic was sound, it drove all those characters together enough to where they HAD to be driven apart. Great writing.

I would have taken 2 or more, but not in continuation, it would have had to been shoved in between, just because like I said in my above post, that last season was all about flushing out the future of the characters.

I feel they did well, in the end, even if it was "raced" to the point. The few extra's they could have added would have been in between the 2nd and 3rd.

I guess they did finish it well, just jumped ahead so much. So what's to complain about? So many shows never get the chance to round itself out, rushed or not.

They had to have had experts from the era on staff - no one else would even know this stuff and it rang so true from what I have lived. I really love the show because it is as accurate as I can tell while not copying the exact companies involved.

They covered the essence well in the early seasons, while keeping the technological aspects accurate but weaving in the early characters well into the last end. Obviously, one group didn't break ground for decades, but they captured it with the characters they had while making it "feel" real.

Re: Halt and Catch Fire
It really is/was, one of AMC's best works, IMO.

I was sad when it ended, but very happy to have got to watch it. I'm glad they didn't dump it one or two seasons in because it was no "mad men" or "twd". I feel they gave that show and it's writers and characters justice by soldiering on the way they did in the face of "poor" ratings(comparatively).

Ironically enough, I bet it's streaming numbers are stronger than the other shows mentioned. So I had some hopes of it getting picked up, but that's just wishful thinking. Thankfully, I can always watch it again and hopefully get a sense of that first amazing watch through.

Re: Halt and Catch Fire
One of the best shows I've watched. Not only did they do a great job "telling the story" of the tech revolution, the characters were excellent and the sub plots were great.
I've watched it a few times. The tech history was pretty spot on, the only issue I had with it was the packet sniffer lol. Other than that everything was real and possible at the time. Even when they get to comet (yahoo) vs rover (google/webcrawler).

The entire series was a great trip down memory lane, and you really rooted for (and against) all of the characters in the show at one point.
