Covid Update from the trenches!!

So I sat through a mindnumbing board meeting today at my hospital concerning C19 numbers, statistics, economic trends, etc...

And I thought it would be interesting to the healthcare uninitiated, to hear basic numbers of stuff and how it all played out in what most have termed “the initial first wave of covid19”

To start off, I’ll just mention deaths...we were in the top 3 hospitals in our region with the highest number of Covid patients, due to having a large amount of elder care facilities in the area. From March to October, basically 6 months of pure Covid...90 people died.

I don’t actually know if this is a massive increase or not, and it’s hard to get answers...I’m trying to find out from my bigger boss...what was the total deaths last year in that 6 month time compared to now? No answers so far...

Honestly I’d say it felt like a “bad” flu season. Nothing over the ordinary except “theatrics”...they were in isolation rooms, RNs, etc wore full PPE gear...like a dress rehearsal for the movie Outbreak or Contagion.

Most patients were from care facilities, which if you don’t know healthcare...means they are at death’s door. Once we had the initial “wave” die...hardly anyone succumbed to C19. Not to say we didn’t have healthy, young individuals die from it...but who knows what actually triggers it, if it’s a bioweapon. My opinion is...if your super healthy, it targets you too...cytokine storm anyone? So probably should keep drinking, and smoking if you are...better chance of living. Maybe take up Gin and Tonics since you get some free quinine, while lowering your immune system a bit to avoid the storm...

Economically, the outbreak was devastating for the hospital, like it was for most retail...for a good 2 months people avoided the hospital like the plague, until they couldn’t hold out any longer...and then things picked up like normal after that.


Honestly, I’ve worked a full 40, if not OT, the whole time...didn’t effect me at all, which is weird if you think about it...

You goto work everyday, while the rest of the world is rioting, watching Netflix, and basically collecting whatever free cash they can...

Wish I could have a vacation =(

Bottom line...even in the trenches, at the hospital...this shit caused way more damage to everyone, than the actual numbers.

Word on the street now is it’s raising again. They say it’s due to Labor Day, and family gatherings..at one point we were at only 4 patients positive, from a high of 44, so brace yourselves for stupid lockdowns from your local governments.

End result is...I think it’s actually real..but it’s totally not what they are telling you..you should know that from the beginnings...just cruise ships?!? That doesn’t seem weird? It’s a bioweapon, and the method of spreading to me seems suspect, and targeted at times.

Anyways let me know what you think, I like to hear opinions on all this craziness.
