Keep a set in the Faraday can until after the emp and know how to use them. The choices are CB radio, baofeng pocket ham radio, (frs and gmrs come in handy too this is the cheap candy I pass out to the neighbors for good will).

Get the car charger, USB charger, and pile of rechargable battery's. Have some kind of solar chargers.

If you have line of sight, wifi will work with cantennas for about 10 miles. I used to steal wifi from a vineyard across the valley when boon docking.

With the ham radios you can even get a low speed internet and email system.

hf is going to be screwed up for weeks or months. so ham is out. VHF not going to go far and probably have the same issue.

you will need everything you need in a grounded faraday cage.
deep ground at least 9 ft.

like I said there will be to much interference for weeks.
so even if your equipment survives, you will not be able to talk for some time.

inexpensive will not talk far. the more power you can put out the better. hopefully the other side will have the power to talk back and not just listen.

also remember others will be able to listen.

better to have a meet up point. non fuel injected and computer run car or truck/ an old diesel as well; will be your best bet to move. problem is many roads will be filled with cars.
