Adam the burned kitten, latest update

When I bought my house there was a pod of five feral cats in the backyard. We trapped and neutered them and have been feeding them ever since . 2 are still shy , 2 let me pet them and spend the night in the house and 1 has become totally tame . Took a few years but it was worth it .

What people are finding out, and it is working here, is that if you get these feral cats 'fixed', and then put them back where you find them, it helps to keep the population down and as well, keeps other 'new' cats from entering the territory.

However, we still have the problem of people who throw away these poor babies as if they were discarding old shoes in the garbage. But all are still welcome! ;)

Such brutal and cruel behaviours -- toward small animals who are so innocent and affectionate and trusting of those special to them -- need to be kept in the forefront of public awareness.

Perhaps I’m more of an “animal person” than a “people person;” . . . but I must agree with my oldest North American friend -- whose 2 little cats “inherited” me when that old and dear friend died 7th December 1996.


My old friend would so often remark :

“Most animals, most of the time, do NOT bite the hand that feeds. Humans, in contrast, have a rather unfortunate habit of doing exactly that.”

The 2 little kitties -- who have remained with me since December of 1996 -- deserve much of the credit for keeping me (relatively) “sane.”

Since my Mother -- who was my last living relative -- died in 2003, . . . I have NO immediate family, . . . anywhere in the world.

EXCEPT, of course, for the 2 little cats, . . . who are my links to that “other” world . . . where, I prefer to think, a greater degree of humanity prevailed.

Personally, it’s in the company of those 2 little cats that I feel most “human.”

And in my view of things, certain animals are really better “people” than some people that I’ve known.
