Just looking at the horse in the video it's pretty stressed. Huffing. No attempt to eat. A horse won't attempt to eat if it's overheated
or overworked. No attempt to move is made. Her head is up pretty high...indicating possible back pain. She may have possibly "tied up" after physically getting worked like that. She didn't want to move at all.

I saw a lot of news footage as I live in Chicago area. I am also familiar with horse conditions. This is b.s. I saw horse condition on news, it was fine. No mention of PD horse being stolen. All information thus far said it was his horse. Condition of horse, as it is loading into trailer, did not look like a horse that had to be put down. People complained because he road it 7 miles. Horses can go much longer than that without a problem, if properly conditioned. This horse appeared to be in perfect condition; he did not limp, he did not appear to be lame in any way. Look at actual footage, behavior of horse, loading of horse.

True, she won't die. But on closer observation the horse was indeed hurting. You can see by the over exaggeration of the forelimbs as it first tries to walk. The head is up for just running a bit of distance which tells you she is experiencing some back pain. Her head is not lowered in the typical resting position. She is not attempting to eat due to being over heated. Her sides are heaving and she is pretty stressed. Yes horses can go much longer but when pushed at a run for that long of a distance is very taxing. She is not going to die unless they did something severely stupid and let her drink cold water right away or put cold water on her back before proper cooling. The update says she is doing fine. There was really no danger of her dying and most seasoned horse people know this. The fact she clearly has Arabian bloodlines is a good thing. They helps for endurance. She looks fairly young. The horse rescue wants to garner up sympathy by saying she will probably shouldn't be ridden again for the rest of her life...but that's bollocks. If she is young enough and has sustained no real back injury or leg injury she should be fine. She probably needs her teeth floated and that's routine. People need to realize sometimes humane groups are willing to stretch the truth to grab more donations. This is just a fact. Seen it lots of times from people I know that rescue horses. That being said I'm glad Nunu is recovering well.
