I said most of the first COWBOYS/RANCHERS were black Freedmen (Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, California). I never said most of the FREED SLAVES were in the role. There were some 8000+ black cattlemen on the frontier and in ArkLaTex. It was back breaking work to drive cattle up hundreds of miles. Mexicans couldn't be trusted to deliver cash or not steal the cattle. Black men's inherent fear of being punished (due to enslavement) made them a natural fit for ranching.

This is a historical fact...in the early days of cattle ranching west of the Mississippi, no Indian would do it and white men didn't want to do it, low heat tolerance. Former slaves fit the bill and worked for cheap. White men were ranch owners...black men tended to the flock and rounded them up. Later on, the dagos and micks came along to earn a living and pushed the black cattlemen, ranchers and cowboys out of the occupation.

We aren't doing this today...go pick up a book...or just watch the numerous black cowboy documentaries online.
