Trump just got a dose of Regeneron’s unapproved antibody drug for covid
At 74 and overweight, the president is at higher risk for serious illness.

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, tested positive for covid-19 and within 24 hours had received an experimental, cutting-edge antibody treatment not available to other Americans.

In a statement released Friday, the White House said Trump had received “a single 8-gram dose” of the biotech treatment, which belongs to a promising new class of antiviral drugs.

The president “remains fatigued but in good spirits” after getting the emergency infusion, according to White House doctor Sean Conley. “He’s being evaluated by a team of experts, and together we’ll be making recommendations to the president and first lady in regards to best next steps.”

Trump and his wife, who also tested positive, were certain to have access to the best medical care the country can provide, including experimental drugs not available to others.

The White House said the president had received an IV infusion of a cocktail of antibodies manufactured by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, of Tarrytown, New York. That treatment is essentially a way to mimic a powerful immune response in order to ward off a serious case of covid-19.

Because he is overweight and 74 years old, the president is at higher than average risk for developing a serious case of the disease. And the chance of death for someone like him is not small—it's at least 5%, about 100 times as great for him as for someone under 30.

Trump’s doctors immediately had to make some tough decisions in deciding what drugs to give him. For one thing, they had to assess medical evidence that’s been consistently clouded by the White House itself and treat a patient who has shown interest in hokum treatments like bleach, second-guessed medical authorities, and even given a bullhorn to a doctor who believes in witchcraft.

The president has “mild symptoms,” according to his chief of staff, Mark Meadows. It usually takes several days before more serious covid-19 symptoms manifest, if they do. As long Trump isn’t in the hospital, he would be classified as a lower-risk “outpatient.”

For nearly any other American, that would mean being told to wait and see how the symptoms develop, because there aren’t any covid-19 drugs approved for outpatients. Two treatments, blood plasma and the antiviral drug remdesivir, did receive emergency approval, but only for people who are hospitalized.

my whole this is where is bayers hydrocholorquine?

I find it funny that, just like during the Spanish flu of 1918, Bayer was handing out experimental drugs.

in 1918 Bayer handed out asprin that caused overdose

that's why it's not a surprise, that Bayer in 2020 was handing out experimental drug hydrocholorquine.

ironically, it was only after the FDA banned hydrocholorquine did the massive deaths from covid19 stop

now covid19 is just the flu when you take away bayers drugs from the equations

It’s in phase III trials and being used across the country with great results. They plan on having it in pill form so you won’t even need a hospital visit. It’s really good news, which is why the media never told you about it.

Re: Trump just got a dose of Regeneron’s unapproved antibody drug for covid
What is Regeneron's REGN-COV2? The experimental Covid drug given to Trump

The experimental coronavirus drug given to Donald Trump is "very promising" and "very potent", a UK doctor involved in a trial of the drug has said.

President Trump was given an artificial antibody treatment REGN-COV2, developed by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, at the White House on Friday after he was diagnosed with Covid-19.

Mr Trump has been given the drug alongside Remdesivir, an antiviral treatment which has been shown to help some coronavirus patients recover faster, as well as zinc, vitamin D, an antacid called famotidine, melatonin and aspirin.

What is REGN-COV2 and how does it work?

REGN-COV2 is made up of two monoclonal antibodies (REGN10933 and REGN10987), which are man-made to act like human antibodies in the immune system.

It was first tested on mice which were genetically modified to have a human immune system, before being tested on 275 people, of whom 40% were classed as obese.

The antibody cocktail works by binding to a protein on the surface of the virus, stopping it from attaching to cells and replicating, while allowing the immune system to attack the virus.

Regeneron has linked up with the pharmaceutical giant Roche to increase the global supply of REGN-COV2 if it proves effective.

Regeneron is a monoclonal antibody drug it was approved for compassionate use, and is NEAR FDA approval after human trials. It is an immune system booster, it does not provide COVID antibodies

No it’s not the same as vaccine, vaccine is a weakened dose of virus which forces your body to create its own antibodies and kill the virus before it has chance to regenerate. This is taking antibodies from a similar blood group and injecting them in your blood stream, as doctors feel your old age and comorbidieties will hinder you from making antibodies fast enough and the virus will take over your body

The problem with this treatment is once the antibodies kill the virus they die off. In a normal state of you catch the virus again your blood can antibodies very quick to combat in case you catch it again, but if you have antibodies injected in your blood stream, it doesn’t prevent you from killing it again, they will have to do this procedure over and over

Regeneron supplied it with a compassionate use release, which is only done for seriously ill patients.

That includes a liability release for the attending physician, patient and facility.
