Why are you not letting go of using jars in the drying stage? I'm not the only one to tell you that is not what to do. Show me anyone in the whole world who does that.

well the dye is somewhat cast in this case.
the bud was trimmed green into jars, which was bad.
now i'm trying to salvage it.
part of the issue is a space premium.. i have limited space to do this.
but you can see, some are in jars here, and some are in larger, open pans.

actually i'm going to concede this was a terrible idea.
taking a look at the jar contents now, half of them have traces of mold.
dang.
lesson learned, but so disheartening.
spreading the rest out in pans now..

I use coat hangers. Tie the stems to the coat hanger and let them dangle. You don't want them touching anything. I've done this for over a decade. I typically dry them in the grow room or a closet with a heater.

For your molded bud, depending on how molded it is, you could probably still make edible butter with it. Spray some hydrogen peroxide on it and let it dry, see if it gets worse or not. Keep the molded stuff away from the good stuff, completely separate rooms if possible.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79381947

this is a great idea.. butter wouldn't be smoked, and the heat would kill the spores, think i'm going to do this.

Re: Harvesting Cannabis in the Back Yard
I'm in Canada too and I grew 3 plants outdoors this summer. 2 of them i brought in about 2 weeks ago and brought the last one in yesterday.

You say you hang the plants for 2 to three weeks. I dont think you have to hang them that long do you? I hang mine for a just over a week then put them in jars with a humidity pack for about 3 weeks.

The plant i brought in yesterday was one of five clones of an earlier batch. I only have room for 4 plant in my indoor grow tent so i stuck the smallest one outside. It never grew as big as my indoor plants but i think it grew the most bud out of all of them.

The indoor ones still have 2 weeks before i cut them down. I cut the outdoor one down a little early cause the nights are starting to get cold here
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5171586

ya same, i took mine down early because cold rain.
last night we got a hard frost so i'm glad i did!

You have to dry 85-90% before curing in jars. Wow wish i saw this post before you reached this point
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78146241

That's way too dry. It will never be able to cure and will taste like hay. You don't want bud to get much lower than 60% humidity in drying. Never let it get under about 55% or you lose the ability to properly cure it. Then you jar it and burp the jar when the humidity goes up as many times as necessary. Finally it should be about 62% or so and should maintain that indefinitely in a sealed jar. That's drying and curing.

youtube made me age restrict this one, sorry.. you gotta be 19.

but if you were ever curious how that canadian legalization thing is going, well, here's me harvesting a couple of my own plants -- it is now legal in canada to grow four cannabis plants for personal consumption.

also, if you ever wondered what i look like, here's your chance:

so last night i went through my sad mouldering jar stash with a magnifying glass.
chucked about half of it.
those chunks that were questionable, couldn't really see big mold but not quite sure, i threw into the crock pot with 2 pounds of organic butter. let it simmer on the porch all night. and it worked!

filtered it twice thru cheesecloth and got 2x 1 pint jars of dark oil/butter.. it's cooling now.

thx for the tips, GLP -- thanks to you i was able to salvage some of this disaster instead of just tossing the lot.

the rest of the bud that didn't show mold under magnification i now have spread out in trays underneath a solar spectrum light.. hopefully that dries it out without any further mold.

here are a couple of photos of the cannabis butter i made last night:

photo of the two jars with cannabis butter:

photo of what it looks like inside the jar:

my first time doing this, i think it turned out fairly well.

interesting observation, the oils mixed with the resin remove the stickiness and make it surprisingly easy to clean up.

My advice is lurk on grow forums without posting on them for a couple years until you have learned all you can in that time. There is a wealth of knowledge on the web and if you approach it correctly people will be super cool to a beginner. You have to pay attention and be willing to learn though or most likely you will get flamed.

good news, the bubble hash experiment went well.
got about 4x tablespoons out of the second filter.
got about 1x tablespoon of ultrafine out of the third filter.
it's drying nicely, no mold which is great!

still editing the video, about a quarter done, hope to have it up in a day or two.

I'm telling you please retire from making "marijuana" how-to videos. If you don't believe me try posting that bubble hash one on any major site and see what happens. I'm trying to help you out here.

I don't make bubble hash but from skimming that vid that is not how you do it. What was that green stuff at the end supposed to be? Hash? Come on, maaaan.

You need more soil, and to feed the plant more fertilizer.

Just like tomatoes, if you grow in a small pot, you will get small tomatoes.

Next time, but the biggest grow bags you can find, and fill them up with good soil.

It's a weed, and grows like a weed. The more you give it the bigger they will get.

I would check the laws, but if you can legally increase the growing season with adjunct lights, it would seem a good idea.

Big plant yields can be in the 5-10 lb range. Should be getting at least 1lb.

i smoked a little bit of this hash off the chopping knife with my pipe.
it was wet, so kinda hard to keep lit, but did get a bit of smoke out of it.

really mild, smooth.. no coughing fit.
at first i thought it didn't really do much to me, but about ten minutes later it felt like my head was gently being lifted into a bigger head.

three days into dry/cure process, so far it's looking good!
