Re: Supplements that may help ptsd and depression.
"Dennis Prager talks about one of humanity's biggest pursuits--happiness. It's mentioned in the Declaration of Independence. Therapists and psychologists (and even pharmaceutical companies!) make their careers out of helping people be and feel happy. And we all know that being unhappy, and being around unhappy people, is no fun. Dennis will discuss why happiness, while great for personal and emotional reasons, is far more than a selfish pursuit. It is a moral obligation. Being happy around others is a necessary ingredient of growing up and accumulating friends. No one likes a Moody Mary. Also, more happiness makes for a better world. After all, how many of the world's dictators and tyrants are motivated by happiness? None! So, learn how to be happy and learn why being happy is so important."

There are no real happy pills...
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79474282

I know I will never be happy, but I would like to get through life easier.
 Quoting: FireBorn

It's a Choice.

When will you choose to be happier?

Your circumstances are entirely irrelevant...
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79474282

Not really a good choice available.
Scars on the body do not fully heal sometimes. I have mind scars that never fully heal.

I don't expect many to understand, but most who have not lived trough what I did would not. The easier choice would be to give up. Im not going to do that.
 Quoting: FireBorn

i have some issues too. it seems nothing really helps. for me there are things that help me hide it from the view of others, but noting that soothes my soul. i am trying to just except it is a part of me and i am who i am. it is hard to live sometimes when you remember too much and can not forget even if you try with the entirety of your being. i try to not give that part of me too much energy but no matter how tired or energy deprived that part is it seems to have a very strong will to rise up. so much of happy life is a illusion and once the illusion is broken there does not seem to be any replacing it.

I am seeking supplements that will help with severe ptsd and depression stemming from psychological trauma.

I am not looking for a high. Cannabis makes me paranoid. I am looking for something that will help with the flashbacks, anxiety and sadness.

I have been on every prescribed antidepressant that there is, and im giving up on drs ever helping me.

I have tried lithium oretate, 5 htp, vitamins etc. many various things.

I will never be fully healed but I would like some quality of life. I know something out there will help.

Please no rudeness as this is hard for me to even reach out and ask for help.

The Key to Unhappiness

"Want to be miserable, resentful, and bitter? Few people do, and yet many people are. Why? Because many people have the one primary character trait that leads to unhappiness. And you need to avoid it. Nationally syndicated talk show host Dennis Prager explains."

"You can't be a happy person if you aren't grateful.
You can't be a good person if you aren't grateful.
Almost everything good flows from gratitude.
Almost everything bad flows from ingratitude."

"Ingratitude guarantees unhappiness.
It is as simple as that.
There isn't an ungrateful happy person on earth.
There isn't an ungrateful good person on earth."

The Key to Happiness is Gratitude.

.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79474282

It is not that I am ungrateful, resentful or bitter. It is the flashbacks of people slapping me, choking me, burning me and hurting me. They are very real and cause me psychological pain.
 Quoting: FireBorn

I’m very sorry that happened to you. I’ve had some awful things happen too. Many of us have. But we can turn lemons into lemonade. Our experiences help us to be more empathetic people able to help others. I’ve worked on forgiveness and even pray for those who did awful things to me. It does take some work. Be kind to yourself.

CBC - Charlottes Web only. It is good for myleon and seizures. Get your levels up and then take less to maintain them. You must also take Zinc, magnesium and Chlorella. Avoid fluoride. Get a violin or hobby involving math. There is a weird disorder that lowers Zinc levels and causes issues. Eat a lot of cashews.

Re: Supplements that may help ptsd and depression.
Check into agmatine sulfate. It works via the same pathways as ketamine (and increases endorphins) but has only the slightest touch of a trip aspect to it. It doesn't work for some, but those it does work for call it magical. Some suggest doses up to 2g/day (higher than on the supplement packaging) It's also nowhere near the cost of ketamine infusions.

Evening primrose oil works great for some as well, but be careful, as it makes some folks worse.

As someone suggested earlier, l-tyrosine is worth trying, as is dlpa (d/l phenylalanine). dlpa and l-phenylalanine are too stimulanting/anxiety provoking for me, so I use only d-phenylalanine. D-phenylalanine also increases endorphins

Re: Supplements that may help ptsd and depression.
First thing you need to work on is getting a good night's sleep. Sleep deprivation will whack you out during the day. PTSD sufferers rarely ever sleep well. Also work on your diet and get plenty of exercise. If your joints are an issue, try swimming.
 Quoting: GA Girl

Yes I am insomniac. I was prescribed trazedone for that. I do not like taking it though as it makes me sleep for too long and then I am groggy all day. I eat mostly salads. Cucumbers and green veggies. Also almonds. I try to walk everyday it does help. I love swimming.
 Quoting: FireBorn

Constant stress eventually causes adrenal burnout (research adrenal burnout diets). That burnout, added to changes due to female hormone fluxes, which also causes sleep issues, can be a real problem for older women. Your doc prescribed trazadone (an off-label prescription of an anti-depressant) instead of Ambien (or other sleep med), so I am going to read between the lines that you are an older female and you might have some issues with snoring? Sleep meds are dangerous for people who might have sleep apnea because they might be put in too deep of a sleep and not wake up (along with many being potentially addictive), so doctors use the Trazodone instead. Because Trazadone relaxes and helps some to sleep, docs prescribe that for older women instead of hormone replacement therapy, which they fear is dangerous. You might need a sleep study to see what is going on. You've got to get a handle on your sleep problems first.

Re: Supplements that may help ptsd and depression.
Lots of good input with alternative therapies. Here are the basics..

Take daily:
Vitamin C
Magnesium (soaks in hot bath with epsom salts regularly)
Vitamin D3 (Sunshine vitamin, huge in depression. 15mins a day of sunlight correlates with significant mood changes)
Thyroid support (another poster mentioned the importance of rebuilding stressed adrenals/ thyroid)

... the kicker, find a good source of ORMUS (ORMES); take this early in the day so as not to disrupt sleep.

There are other supplements to throw in there depending on sex/ age/ physiology, and diet is huge too, but these are the basics I use to keep my mood balanced.

Yeah you probably need more meat. If you eat red meat you can take digestive enzymes with it. You might feel a lot better with some red meat. Even just a few ounces.

Maybe it has been mentioned before but iodine could really help with these things. Lots of iodine deficient people. It has a strong effect on your consciousness, dark
Suicidal thoughts, always feel sleepy even after lots of sleep, sensitive to head and cold...

First get your blood work done.

CBC. CMP. Anemia’s, D25 hydroxy and a complete hormone panel of total test estradiol FSH LH and it’s very important to get SHGB ! Depression and ptsd are being treated with testosterone cypionate or enanthate.
Low D25 hydroxy levels can contribute to depression (think seasonal depression from cloudy weather). Getting this level over 60 will help too. Once D3 is converted to D2 or D it becomes a pro-hormone.

Depression is anger turned inwards..
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79474282

I haven't thought of it this way, but those I know who suffer from depression that seems inescapable have issues rooted in anger, even though they don't necessarily look angry on the outside. I think deep down they are angry and don't know it. Not for everyone, but for many.
