one of my children has different family memories than the rest of us, and I can't remember much at all about the whole era.

If they all had the same version I'd be worried maybe it's me, but they don't, and when I test my memory using physical evidence it always verifies my version. Your memories are yours, no one else's. No sense trying to convince someone else they are "wrong" A well know phenomenon is that no matter how many people witness the exact same event, every one of them will have different versions, sometime fundamentally different versions. This is why I believe eye witness testimony is the least reliable.
