OMG!!! Scary!!! He reacted the right way tho. NEVER turn your back on a mountain lion hoping it will just go away. The runner walked backward watching the mountain lion ad it's movement. Not facing it makes the cat think you are vulnerable. The runner also tried to appear larger like a bigger foe to contend with. He also didn't run. If a person runs? The lion will chase faster and physically attack or maul you (possibly to death)...you would be prey just like a cat and mouse. I live in the mountains of Southwest. I never hike without bear mace or my 9mm just in case. I'm a small female so it will hopefully protect me from human predators too. :)
