If the universe were one flat plane, then everything on it could exhibit only two dimensions, as well. Which explains the appeal to Bolshies. Even sillier, see Ptolemy's support for a geocentric solar system—the planets orbit alright, then are made to perform loops, spins and unexplained twirls like ballroom dancers on roller skates.  Why discredit ideas rather an answer observational questions? 1. When gravity on a round earth tells us that vertical surfaces should all radiate from the centre, tilting away from each other at a rate of 1 degree for every 111km at sea level (the math). Why then are vertical objects always parallel, as far as we can see?2. Why don't we see things "drop" 3 meters below the horizon for every 5km of horizontal distance (the math), when mirages and observational height are accounted for? Very good. Key word here is "calculated". He created a representational (mathematical) model, based on the "shadows" of vertical objects (he created a mathematical model based the assumption of spheres and their interactions, then called it as a globe... he never proved spheres through observation), before we had the ability to see significant distances (powerful telescopes) and use "observation" to verify their mathematics. Their "model" does not fit direct observation of the earth. Nice try though using ancient mathematics... we've come a way since then, and still haven't provided an accurate "model" of the earth. There are literally hundreds of geodetic's used in spatial sciences... none accurate.
